Seamons CC Evening Road Race - Tues 22nd June

21 April 2021

The 2021 Seamons Evening Road Race has been sanctioned by TLI Cycling, and will take place at 7pm on Tuesday
22nd June on the Siddington course
.
The race HQ is Siddington Village Hall.

The 22nd is the day following the expected final easing of the Covid-19 restrictions, and will therefore be one of the first road races
to take place for more than a year, and will be the first Seamons race for 3 years. Sadly, it will be the first event
since the death of Nigel Harrop, long time club member, Chairman and President, supporter and organiser of the Seamons race,
and director of TLI Cycling.

We owe it to Nigel to make a sucess of this race, which has always been popular with riders and is sure to be oversubscribed.

We therefore need the full support of members of Seamons, especially those with experience in race organisaton, and newer
members willing to take experience from and enjoy the event.

We need:
Marshals for the 8 marshalling points and finish area,
3 lead cars with drivers and observers,
Minimum 2 finish line judges,
Sign on officer and helper,
Catering to prepare and serve 100+ post race snacks,
Supporters to cheer and encourage the riders.

Can Seamons members please consider how they can best support the race and let me
know what they would like to volunteer for.

Put the date in your diary.

A message from Nigel’s family

06 March 2021

Yesterday we had a lovely celebration of Nigel's life with those close family and friends who were able to attend, sharing stories and memories and remembering the good times.
We would like to say a massive thank you to all those who contributed. Due to Covid restrictions we know a lot of people were unable to be there who otherwise would have been with us. We have put together a memorial booklet celebrating Nigel’s life,
if anyone would like a pdf copy please email Amy at akeharrop@gmail.com and we’d be more than happy to send this over.
We are welcoming donations to The British Heart Foundation in Nigel’s memory and have set up a memorial page, please find this linked below.

Nigel Harrop (1950 - 2021)

17 February 2021

It is with great sadness I have to report the news of Nigel Harrop’s passing.

Nigel was a club stalwart, a great Chairman, friend and clubman, and will be missed by all of his cycling colleagues.

He was for several years our very active Chairman, a keen time-triallist and road racer, and until recently organised the club’s annual road race.

In recent years Nigel was also a key figure in the development and success of TLI Cycling.

On behalf of all club members, thank you for all you have done, Nigel.

Our love and condolences go to wife Barbara, and children Amy and Jack.

Membership Renewals
01 January 2021

Dear SCC Members,

It's the time of year again when membership fees are due for renewal, and they are beginning to trickle in already,

Unfortunately, its come at not the best time, but here's hoping for a better year of cycling as the spring approaches.

If you're paying by Standing Order then you don't need to do anything.
Otherwise, especially this year, I'd prefer fees are transferred directly into the account.
The less preferred method is cheque or cash and you can mail it to me at the address on the membership application form
downloadable from the web site.

The account info needed to pay subs by Standing Order or money transfer is:

Account: Seamons CC
Sort Code: 51-61-11
Account # 70538131

You have until the end of this month after which time a late payment fee of £5 is also due,
I'll be sending out a reminder to those who haven't paid a few days before the end of the month.

Wishing you All
Happy New Year
John Hammond (Membership Secretary)

Annual General Meeting 2020
16 November 2020
Dear Member,
This is a brief update for anyone who was unable to attend this year's AGM.

Apologies were received from Alan Rogerson, Roy Waters, Reg Blease, Tom Towers, Nigel Harrop and Bob McPartland.

The meeting held on Zoom was attended by around 22 members starting at 8pm on Friday 13th Nov 2020.

The first item was an announcement from Keith Stacey:

"Just prior to this year's AGM the Life Members received a nomination for not one but two new Life Members. Their nominations were considered by the existing Life Members (as required by the Club Rules) and it was unanimously agreed that both Robin Haigh and Keith Bailey were invited to become Club Life Members.
Both Robin and Keith joined the club nearly fifty years ago and have been members ever since. During that time they have taken part in most club events, raced (with some considerable success in Robin’s case) and helped in many Club promotions."
Keith Stacey

There followed the member's reports, after which was the election of the Club President for 2020-22. Thanks go to the outgoing President Nigel Harrop and congratulations to the newly elected President Mike Brooks.
The Committee Roles of Diversity Officer and Magazine Editor remain open and a welcome to Heather Regan who takes on the new role of Women's Officer.
We would like to thank Tim Marshall for his efforts in the Non Committee Role of Webmaster and who is now replaced by John Hammond after Tim chose to stand down, and Rob Gibson now joins Dave Barker in the Non Committee Role of Trafford Cycling Forum representative, with Barry Armstrong joining John Verbickas as British Cycling representative.
The only proposal of the evening from Heather Reagan was passed with the accepted new wording “Proposition to update the website” to be taken onboard and discussed at the next Committee meeting.
Many thanks to those of you who managed to attend and/or are contributing to our excellent Club in any other way.

A full set of the minutes will be attached to the Facebook Group over the next couple of days.

Darryl Mastropietro, Secretary.

Record of Notable Achievements
07 October 2019
Further to the discussion at last year’s AGM we will be recording notable cycling achievements by club members in the handbook, this will be a perpetual record rather than only the current year as present.

This record will develop over time, there is no way it will be comprehensive at first attempt.

As guidance the sort of achievements we are looking to include are:

Racing:
Participation in Multi-National Events, i.e World, Olympic, Commonwealth, ToB etc
Placings in National Events
Outright wins in Local Events
National Records

Non-Racing:
Audax awards – PBP, LEL, AAA, Super Rad, RRTY etc

So please put in a claim if you have anything past or present that you would like to have included. We already have quite a lot, mainly submitted by individuals and extracted from the M&D records.

Seamons Cycling Club To Lead Out Tour Of Britain On Saturday 14th September
10 September 2019
Altrincham’s local cycling club, Seamons CC, has been given the honour of leading out the final stage of the 2019 Tour of Britain, which starts in Altrincham on Saturday 14thSeptember.

A group of 25 Seamons members, in their distinctive yellow and blue kit, will set off at 10:45, 15 minutes before the main peloton and cycle through Altrincham and Hale before peeling off and joining the spectators.

Seamons Cycling Club was formed in 1948 as an offshoot of the Seamons Moss community centre in the Oldfield Brow area of Altrincham. The club has grown steadily over the years to become one of the largest and most active cycling clubs in the North West with a membership of over 240.

As well as official club rides every Sunday and informal rides on other days of the week, many members participate in time trials – winning numerous prizes in the Manchester and District Time Trial Association, Veteran Time Trial Association and Manchester and District Ladies Cycling Association events. Members also ride in road races, cyclocross and audax events and ride on the track at the velodrome. To date, Seamons CC has produced an Olympic pursuit rider, a British Best All-Rounder, a Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist. On three wheels, two riders have won the National BAR title.

One of the Seamons cyclists, Keith Stacey, leading out the Tour of Britain, will no doubt be remembering when he himself rode in the 1967 Tour of Britain (known then as the Milk Race). Keith joined the club in 1961. At 20, Keith was second in both the National 25 mile and 50 mile time trial championships and won the British Best All-Rounder title(competed over 50 mile, 100 mile and 12 hour time trials). In 1967, Keith took up road racing; he was invited to join The Provinces team to ride the Milk Race (1400 miles and 2 weeks with no rest days) – he finished in 27th place. Now aged 74, Keith still rides with the club at least twice per week and is an inspiration to all club members.

The Christie - "Chairman's 100" Sunday July 28th 2019 - Now Sunday 11th August 2019
13 July 2019 *updated 04 August 2019 *

Due to Monsoon like rain on Sunday 28th July the ride has now been rearranged to Sunday 11th August
Dear Members,

This year the selected charity is The Christie. The charity this year has been selected by Maria who has been undergoing treatment recently. She has bravely volunteered to be there on the morning of the ride to say hello and also to collect money for The Christie. I am really very pleased that her treatment seems to be going so well and wish her all the best in the coming difficult few months.

You can read Maria's story and make online donations here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/seamonschairmans100 All donations go straight to The Christie.

The idea is for as many members as possible to participate in a 100 mile or 100k cycle ride. Suggested routes are below, setting off from Rackhams at 9pm:

100 Miles: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1816228
100 Kilometres: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1816230

if you are unable to join with the Club on the day, please feel free to devise your own route and distance. The important thing is that as many members as possible take part. The suggested contribution is £10, but feel free to donate more, or if need be, less.

Don't wait, do it now!

If you are unable to visit the Just Giving fundraising page above Maria will be at Rackhams on the morning of the ride to collect donations. Alternatively Committee members will be happy to take donations at any time..

Best wishes and "Thanks" in advance for another great fund-raising effort.

Jim Boydell
07 July 2019
We are very sad to inform you all that Jim Boydell died on Thursday. Jim was a Life Member of the Seamons in recognition of the outstanding contribution he made to the Club. It is impossible to do justice here to the debt we all owe him, not only members of this Club but the whole Manchester cycling community.

He will be remembered for many things. A prolific club champion and record holder, the winner of our local 12 hour race with a distance of 263 miles in 1963, a member of the Seamons team that took second place in the British Best All rounder competition in 1965 and 1966, and a top 10 finish in the individual BAR. He went on to help run our sport as a member of the M&DTTA committee. He organised the National 10 mile championships on the club’s behalf several years ago and the M&DTTA 100 mile time trial for several years.

Jim and Dee moved to Eastbourne on the South Coast to be near his youngest daughter and their grandchildren.

We would all wish to convey our deepest sympathy to Dee, Kate, Emma and all the family.

There will be a celebration of Jim's life at Broadway United Church Eastbourne at 11am on 24 July.

Dee and the family also want us to pay our tribute to Jim up here in Cheshire; we will keep you all informed about the arrangements for this.

Seamons CC 2018 Cafe Of The Year
19 March 2019
Well done to Gosia and her team at the Snowdrop Cafe at Grasslands, Seamons CC Cafe of the Year 2018.

It was a pleasure to give this award to Gosia, who is a fantastic host and always welcoming. The cafe is not a particularly long cycle for our club members, so we make sure we end up there by taking quite a circular route to ensure we get the miles in before we enjoy the cake.
