Club Hill Climb Championships - Sunday 6th October 2019
30 September 2019
Next Sunday is our annual hill climb time trial and free-wheel competition. I hope to see lots of people entering and/or spectating.

The club will pay your CTT entry fee for the hill climb. Sign on is outside Rackhams at 9:00 am. Everyone then rides out to Withinshawe Lane near Sutton. Hill climb starts at approximately 11 am. I need some marshalls, so please let me know if you are prepared to help out.

Immediately following the hill climb there will be an official photograph for the club website - please ensure you are all wearing club kit (new or old-style).

Then we have the excitement of the free-wheel competition (hope you've been eating lots of stodgy pies during the year to get a suitable amount of ballast)!

Everyone in need of refreshment will then head to Sutton Garden Centre before cycling back to Altrincham. See you on Sunday.

A Chance To Remember
28 August 2019
During September and October we have two clubs runs in remembrance of clubmates who are no longer with us.

On Sunday 8th September we have our annual Bob Richardson Run to Chester in honour of one of our founding members for whom riding to Chester was one of his favourite days out on the bike, the ride remembers not only Bob but all of our clubmates who now ride the lanes elsewhere. The ride starts as usual from Rackhams, with everyone aiming for the cafes and pubs along the city's riverside. It's a flat run to Chester but if you're new to longer rides and still want to take part, try a section whose pace might suit you better. The Bob Richardson Run is one of the club's 'calendar rides' - events that always happen on the same weekend in the Seamons calendar.

One suggested route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/3270113

On Sunday 20th October this year we will be having a Memorial ride for Jim Boydell to Astbury. All are invited to take part, there will be a choice of routes and cafe’s. The plan is to congregate at the ‘triangle’ at Astbury, more details to follow.

One suggested route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30858886

SUMMER SOCIAL Sunday 25th August

The Club is holding its own annual Summer Social event on the 25th August (Sunday) at The Rope and Anchor in Dunham Massey at 2pm. http://www.theropeandanchor.co.uk/

Arrangement as usual and we will again be entertained by our talented Seamons Ukelele Band. Once again cost of buffet will be subsidised by the club, prices TBA.

You can come straight from your Sunday ride or you could drive there, entirely up to you.

If you would like to attend could you can either email me at socialsec@seamonscc.co.uk or post a message on the FB messenger. Please let me know no later than the 18th August.

Looking forward to seeing you on the day to celebrate another great Seamons event.

Seamons CC Open 25 Timetrial - Sat 27th July
12 July 2019
Seamons Open 25 mile TT is on Saturday, 27th July 2pm.

It's our club's turn to host an open Time Trial in a few weeks. There's still time to enter if you want to ride it, go to the CTT website and entries close 16th July at 23:59 – 8 Seamons riders so far.

However we also need club members to volunteer to help out on the day so that we can run this event. We need people to marshal, do the signing in and out at the HQ and also to help out in the kitchen to provide the drinks and food for the riders.

If you are able to help in anyway, please get in touch with me either through Facebook or by email (SeamonsTTsec@hotmail.co.uk).

It is the Chairman's 100 the next day so save your legs on Saturday and help out rather than go for a pedal!

2019 Club 25 Mile Championships
11 June 2019
The club 25 will now be on Tuesday 25 June, first rider off at 7pm. Starting at the Bears Paw and using the new route. Please keep your fingers crossed for good weather and no road works. Let me know if you want to ride or marshall. The road race scheduled for this evening has been cancelled

Paul Barber - TT Secretary ttsec@seamonscc.co.uk
Club 10 Timetrial Wed 26th June
11 June 2019
The Wednesday evening time trial on 26th June is cancelled as we have rearranged our club 25 for the evening before and it would be unfair to expect people to marshall 2 nights on the run.

Consequently for Seamons riders the season long competition points will now be calculated over the best 11 events not the best 12.

"Momma" Audax Rides 2019
02 June 2019
Chester & N. Wales CTC/Audax Rides from “Old Ma’s” Café Tattenhall Sunday September 15 2019, organiser Dave Matthews, Seamons CC member.

The date of the rides this year has been moved from Saturday to the Sunday to avoid any clash with the "Tour of Britain" which finishes in Cheshire the day before.

“Pistyll Packing Momma” 200k heads out to Chirk and then visits Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall (pictured above). Return is via Lake Vyrnwy and Bala, followed by the Shelf and Hope Mountain. A very scenic, tough day out---recently described as “the perfect 200k” by an experienced Audax rider. 3600m climbing.

“Momma’s Mountain Views” 130k visits Chirk before climbing over to Llangollen with superb views of the Berwyn Mountains. Return over the Panorama and the Old Horseshoe pass to join the 200k ride at Llanarmon-yn-Lal. 1750m climbing

“Momma’s Leafy Lanes” 60k gives a pleasant, undulating ride through Cheshire lanes as an easy introduction to Audax events Lots of free parking at Old Ma’s Café. Great cafes en route.

Further details, Route sheet (please read), GPX, Entry (on line or postal) at aukweb.net.
2019 Club 25 Mile Championships
02 June 2019
Club championship 25 mile Time Trial is on Tuesday 11 June.

HQ is Siddington Village Hall (car park and outside toilets only - we have no access to the hall itself as there is a WI meeting). First rider off at 18:45 (note HQ is approximately 2 miles from start). You must let me know in advance if you intend to ride. I will need name, age and best time over 25 in last 3 years (if this is your first 25 please tell me your best 10 mile time in last 3 years). On the night you will need to sign on and collect your number from HQ before the start.

Map of the course: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/1816243

The club is subsidising this event so it is free to all members. I hope to see a large number of membership taking part - you do not need a time trial bike etc., just your road bike with lights. I also need marshals, time keepers etc etc. Please let me know if you can volunteer on the night.

22 May 2019
Tonight is our club's championship 10 mile time trial. First rider off at 7:30 pm. Sign on by 7pm. I hope to see lots of you taking part. Everyone is welcome, you don't need a time trial bike or special kit just your road bike, helmet and a rear light. It's a chance to see how fast you can go over 10 miles. If you don't want to ride, come along and marshal and cheer the riders. No entry fee - the club will pay the CTT levy. See you tomorrow.
2019 Into The Berwyns Audax Rides - Sat June 1st
04 May 2019
Event is traditionally the club Audax and we would like to see a good entry of Seamons riders

These well established, classic rides have moved 3k to a new start/ finish location in 2019 at Duddon Village Hall CW6 0EZ near Tarporley. The routes start out through West Cheshire to visit the Prospect Tea Rooms amidst the beautiful Berwyn hills above Llangollen. The rides then continue through many challenging hills (200k) or via a scenic short cut (130k) to Chirk. Return through another series of West Cheshire lanes.

"Tour of the Berwyns" 200k. The West Cheshire/ N. Wales classic audax ride which has been followed for at least 30 years with just a few variations. Once out of Cheshire, the route visits Prospect Tea Rooms above the Llangollen Panorama. After descending the Panorama, the River Dee is then followed to Corwen. From here the central, key section climbs the Milltir Gerrig pass, descends to Llangynog and then follows the hill road from Llanrheadr-Y-M back over the hills to Chirk. Finally there is a flat run back through Cheshire lanes to the hall. An exhilarating ride in outstanding scenery.

" Panorama Prospect" 130k A shorter version of the above, which misses the key mountain section of the 200k route by descending early from the Panorama to the Aqueduct and hence Chirk.

Full details of these good value rides, low cost entry, entry forms, route sheets etc are available at www.aukweb.net. Plenty of free car parking at the start/finish. Please note late change of start venue (formerly Willington Hall) and check you have the corrected route sheet/gps track---available on calendar page from May 2019.

Entries on-line using paypal or through the mail now available until closing date 28 May. More detail here.

2019 Eureka Audax Rides - Sat April 27th
07 April 2019
Once again Chester & N. Wales CTC is to run a series of early season audax rides based at the Café, as outlined below:

"Eureka Excursion" 200k BRM This ride is based on the Peak Audax "Eureka" route---but starting at the Cafe itself and visiting the beautiful village of Ellesmere at the southern point. The route then heads off to a cafe stop at Tilly’s in Bunbury, followed by Congleton & Lymm (thus avoiding the Manchester conurbation). Return is through Great Budworth to the Wirral. A generally flat ride with many interesting, scenic lanes and great cafes.

"Tea in Prospect" 130k rides out to Prospect Tea Rooms near the Llangollen Panorama (one big hill to reach the cafe) and then returns on mostly flat lanes via a lunch stop at Tilly’s in Bunbury. More great cafes on this ride

"Two Mills Twirl" 60k is an introductory ride visiting Cleopatra's Cafe in Holt, followed by a return to the Eureka cafe through Aldford and Mickle Trafford.

As the cafe is up for sale, these rides may be the last of their kind---so for those people who have never visited the cafe this may be a great opportunity to visit a piece of cycling history 90 years in the making. More details here

Team store open, will close midnight 25 Nov, delivery before Xmas.

This is probably the last order at present prices as I need to renegotiate our contract in January. All details for ordering are on the “kit” tab on the Seamons webpage.

Hoodies / Polo Shirts
16 November 2018
IMPORTANT INFO TO EVERYONE WHO ORDERED. Please read. The polo shirts have finally arrived and all items (polo shirts and hoodies) are now at my house - please arrange to collect asap.

I am very disappointed in the service provided by this supplier and the quality of these garments (the colours on the squirrel logo are not correct) and I will not be dealing with them again. I have negotiated long and hard with the supplier and have eventually been given a partial refund on the cost which works out at £6.85 per item. I will give this back when you collect your items and for those of you who have already collected yours, pop round anytime and I will have your refund to give you. If you haven’t collected your refund by Christmas can I donate the money to a charity?

Matt Fox Physiotherapy - Clubroom Friday 12th October
10 October 2018
How are we keeping strong, fit and flexible over winter? Improving that Time Trial tuck or getting rid of shoulder ache? Taken up running but get some unusual aches? How can we recover from injuries or surgery quicker and get back to where we left off? What's the best exercises if we don't have much free time to spare for anything but bike & family? etc etc.

We have an opportunity where a very experienced professional sports physiotherapist will come to our clubroom (opposite Cresta Court Hotel) one friday evening to give a short talk and Q&A, just out of kindness. Maybe he will demonstrate what we could do e.g effective exercises to help prevent injury or deal with that niggly knee.

The chap is called Matt Fox, he is local and works with anyone wanting to keep healthy and flexible and often Mr Hoad-Reddick's patients for those of you who may be familiar with his work. Mr H-R has got the occasional Team Sky & Team GB cyclist back on the road again when things have gone wrong.

If anyone thinks this maybe useful or are interested - it's not any kind of sales pitch from a gym - I thought it would be fun to keep the enthusiasm and improvements going over winter whatever type of cycling you are into. It doesn't necessarily have to relate to cycling. If you're up for it I'll invest in some nice cyclist approved cake.

For the clubroom regulars. This should not interfere with or delay any Table Tennis matches...too much.

If you want to check him out this is Matt here - http://mattfoxphysio.co.uk/

Notice of Annual General Meeting 2018
03 October 2018
By tradition, the meeting takes place on the second Friday in November which this year is the 9th November. The meeting will start at 8pm at St George’s Church Hall, Altrincham.

The meeting will include reports from all the club’s officers and the audited statement of accounts, will elect club officials and will handle any other business required. I would also like to remind everyone that all club roles (apart from Vice-President) are up for election. Nominations for the President are required to be submitted in writing before the AGM. Nigel Harrop is standing down as Chairman after doing an excellent job over the last few years and this position needs to be filled. Many of the current committee members are prepared to stand again for election again although there are a few vacant roles including the Touring Sec and Club Development Officer. If anyone wants to take on any of the roles, I would encourage members to put their name forward.

The agenda for the meeting will include additional items proposed by members. If you have any items or issues that you want to raise during the AGM, then I would invite you to please write to me with details so these can be included in the Agenda for the night. Items for inclusion into the AGM need to be submitted on or before the 12th October (28 days before the meeting). Each item will need a proposer, someone to second the motion and a title and details. Be aware that you will be asked to introduce your motion at the AGM. An example agenda item would look something like the following:

Agenda Item Title

Proposed:    J Smith             Seconded: W Jones
Proposal:     “Proposition that …”
Reason:       To improve ….

I look forward to seeing people on the night.

Success for Seamons Riders at The TLI National TT Championships
29 September 2018
Congratulations to Nigel Modlinsky & Barry Armstrong for being placed 1st & 3rd in the recent TLI National Timetrial Championships.

Sunday the 16 September was the date of the TLI National Championship Time Trial, a sporting event of 25 miles and 670 metres climbing based on the Horseshoe pass in North Wales. It was also the 8th and final round of the successful Lapierre Road Series, which on all previous rounds had been blessed with perfect weather, but on this occasion suffered wind driven rain. Nonetheless, most of the 120 entrants set off enthusiastically on this testing course commencing with a timed 2 mile hill climb (event within the event) from near the Britannia, over the top, down towards Corwen and return to the finish at the Ponderosa cafe at the top of Horseshoe, which also formed the HQ for the event.

TLI Category B honours, and a National Champion’s jersey, went to Seamon’s Nigel Modlinsky with a time of 1:10:49. This concluded an outstanding year for Nigel, with some fine racing leaving him 1st Cat B and 2nd overall in the Lapierre series.

The other Seamons rider in the National TT was Barry Armstrong, who finished 3rd Cat F, with a time of 1:19:45 (and 4th Cat F in the Lapierre series).

Club Hill Climb Championships - Sunday 7th October

A week on Sunday (7th October) is the annual club championship hill climb and the free wheel completion. Every member can have a go (the club will pay your entry fee). Competitors will need to sign on at Rackhams at 9:00 on the day. Afterwards, all cyclists will go to Sutton Garden Centre. The hill climb and free wheel competitions are great fun so I'm hoping for a big turnout.

British Heart Foundation - "Chairman's 100" Sunday July 29th 2018
17 July 2018
Dear Members,

This year's fund raising effort will be in aid of the Atrial Fibrillation Association. Without going into detail I think most of us know at least one person who has benefitted from charity funded research into this area. The idea is for as many members as possible to participate in a 100 mile or 100k cycle ride. Suggested routes are below, setting off from Rackhams at 9pm:

100 Miles: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1816228
100 Kilometres: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1816230

if you are unable to join with the Club on the day, please feel free to devise your own route and distance. The important thing is that as many members as possible take part. The suggested contribution is £10, but feel free to donate more, or if need be, less. To simplify the admin this year, to maximise the amount which goes to the AFA and, where appropriate, take advantage of "Gift Aid", please go directly to the AF Association website at http://www.heartrhythmalliance.org/afa/uk/ and make your contribution, you can donate directly on their Just Giving page here https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/seamonscc-100

Don't wait, do it now!

You will be asked by the Club to verbally confirm that you have donated, so we can calculate an approximate total, and to record those who are entitled to a "100" certificate. If you are unable to visit the AFA website for any reason, Committee members will be happy to take donations, but this option means that for every £10, the AFA potentially loses £2.50 of Gift Aid. Best wishes and "Thanks" in advance for another great fund-raising effort.

However we also need club members to volunteer to help out on the day so that we can run this event. We need people to marshal, do the signing in and out at the HQ and also to help out in the kitchen to provide the drinks and food for the riders.

If you are able to help in anyway, please get in touch with me either through Facebook or by email SeamonsTTsec@hotmail.co.uk. It is the Chairman's 100 the next day so save your legs on Saturday and help out rather than go for a pedal!

Volunteers needed for Manchester & District Time Trials Association 100 mile TT - 1st July 2018
06 June 2018
Message from Dave Fearon, organiser of the M&D 100:

Hi all, I'm sending this plea for help to your club as you are a member of the Manchester & District Time Trials Association. The flag ship event of the association is less than one month away & I've had a few volunteers who have already come forward and offered their time to help this Year, but as you can imagine I need quite a lot of helpers for a 100 mile event. A two shift system is only fair especially for the marshalls as it is not reasonable to expect people to sit on a corner for over 6 hours and of course this adds to the burden of finding help.

This is our only remaining long time trial on Cheshire and I'm keen to keep it alive with your help, especially as it has been well supported by entrants for the past few years. So if you could reach out to your club members for help it would be very much appreciated by the M&DTTA and by myself as organiser. I look forward to receiving your response.

Kind regards,

New Veterans Record on Standard at 25 Miles
03 June 2018
Congratulations to Adrian Hughes on setting a new veterans record on standard at 25 miles of +17:58 with a ride of 00:50:16 in the Sportzmad event on the R25/3H course.

01 June 2018
Next Wednesday's club TT is not on, I'm afraid, as the road will be closed for painting the road markings. There is no Wednesday TT the following week either as the club championship 25 TT is on Tuesday 12 June. So the next club 10 will be on Wednesday 20 June.

Club 25 Mile Timetrial Championship 20178
25 May 2018
Club championship 25 time trial is on Tuesday 12 June, first rider off at 7:15. As there is a handicap trophy and a veteran's trophy as well as overall winner (men and women) awards I need to know in advance if you will be riding and what your age is on 12 June and your best 25 time in the previous 3 years. I also need lots of volunteers to marshal, time keep and start off the riders. Am hoping to get Chelford Village Hall as HQ, but still awaiting final confirmation. I will post as soon as it's confirmed.

Seamons Evening Road Race - Helpers Required
18 May 2018
Helpers & Marshals Wanted - Seamons Road Race - Tuesday Evening 26th June 2018.

Just a reminder that Seamons CC is once again organising a very popular 33-mile road race under the TLI Cycling rules. The racing shall start at 7pm and will be held on the Siddington circuit with the headquarters based at the Siddington Village Hall, Cheshire, SK11 9JR. As before, three age based categories of 16-44; 45-54 and 55+ shall comprise the competitive racing and to enable everything to run smoothly we need as many volunteers as possible. There are many important roles to cover… for example we require marshals on each of the circuit corners, sign-on officials, car drivers to lead each race category and last but not least we need help in providing refreshments (any cake etc. donations will be gratefully received)…the refreshments last year went down very well! To pledge any help, you can contact me either by a message through Facebook or email rrorg@seamonscc.co.uk

Full details of all TLI Cycling membership, events and activities can be found at http://www.tlicycling.org.uk/

Some Notes From The 2017 AGM
22 November 2017
Dear Member,

This is a brief update for anyone who, like me, was unable to attend this year's AGM. I am very grateful to David Hoyle for stepping into the role of Chairman for the evening. Teamwork!!

The meeting was attended by around 40 members. As there were no proposals affecting our Constitution submitted by the closing date, the main purpose of the night was to elect your Committee for 2018. The only Committee member who chose to stand down was our long-serving Membership Secretary, Mike Brooks. On behalf of us all, I would like to thank Mike for all the hard work and dedication he has shown during a time when the Club has experienced such a massive growth in membership. Hopefully he will still oversee our regular Wednesday evening 10s. Therefore the Committee is largely unchanged for 2018, with only exception being that John Hammond will combine the roles of Treasurer and Membership Secretary. Congratulations to Jeanette Barber who was elected to be Vice President for the next two years.

During the AoB section of the meeting the Club decided to end the practice of offering a monthly extended Social Run, and to ask the Committee to consider ways in which more of our 250+ members could be encouraged to more actively support our wide range of cycling related activities.

Many thanks to those of you who manged to attend and/or are contributing to our excellent Club in any other way.

Nigel Harrop, Chairman.

Notice of Annual General Meeting 2017
06 October 2017
By tradition, the meeting takes place on the second Friday in November which this year is the 10th November. The meeting will start at 8pm at St George’s Church Hall, Altrincham.

The meeting will include reports from all the club’s officers and the audited statement of accounts, will elect club officials and will handle any other business required. I would also like to remind everyone that all club roles (apart from President) are up for election. Nominations for the Vice-President are required to be submitted in writing before the AGM. At present, most of the current committee are prepared to stand again for election although there are a few vacant roles. If anyone wants to take on one of the roles, I would encourage members to put their name forward.

The agenda for the meeting will include additional items proposed by members. If you have any items or issues that you want to raise during the AGM, then I would invite you to please write to me with details, so these can be included in the Agenda for the night. Items for inclusion into the AGM need to be submitted on or before the 13th October (28 days before the meeting).

Club Kit Store Open Mon 11th September 2017
06 September 2017
Need any club kit? The online team store will open Monday 11 September for one week. Any orders guaranteed to be delivered to me by 16 October.

Note that Pactimo will upgrade some of the existing range of clothing and apply the 2018 price list from end September. With regards to Seamons clothing prices, nothing changes to the prices I originally negotiated for a 3 year initial term, except for the Ouray Jacket (which was added later), this product price has been increased by £1.00. There are 3 items of our kit which will be upgraded from October: Continental short sleeve jersey, Ascent short sleeved jersey and arm warmers (see links below). If you order these 3 items next week, you will get the existing design so you may wish to wait until the next time the store opens if you want the updated styles.

Continental short sleeve jersey
Arm warmers
Ascent 2.0 jersey will be automatically upgraded to the Ascent Aero jersey
Please note that this jersey is a form fit jersey and items in this category have been designed to provide an aerodynamic form fit.

A Chance To Remember
04 September 2017
This Sunday's club run to Chester is in remembrance of clubmates who are no longer with us. Called the Bob Richardson Run in honour of one of our founding members for whom riding to Chester was one of his favourite days out on the bike, the ride remembers not only Bob but all of our clubmates who now ride the lanes elsewhere. Sunday's ride starts as usual from Rackhams, with everyone aiming for the cafes and pubs along the city's riverside. Most popular is the Blue Moon Café on The Groves, or the nearby Boathouse pub. It's a flat run to Chester but if you're new to longer rides and still want to take part, try a section whose pace might suit you better. The Bob Richardson Run is one of the club's 'calendar rides' - events that always happen on the same weekend in the Seamons calendar.

Seamons CC Open 25 - 2.00 pm Saturday 29th July 2017
14 July 2017
Seamons Open 25 mile TT is on Saturday, 29th July 2pm onwards, it's our club's turn to host an open Time Trial in a few weeks. There's still time to enter if you want to ride it, go to the CTT website and entries close 18th July at 23:59.

However we also need club members to volunteer to help out on the day so that we can run this event. We need people to marshal, do the signing in and out at the HQ and also to help out in the kitchen to provide the drinks and food for the riders. If you are able to help in anyway, please get in touch with me either through Facebook or by email as below.

It's the Chairman's 100 the next day so save your legs on Saturday and help out rather than go for a pedal!

Charles Carraz - Seamons Open 25 Organiser seamonsttsec@hotmail.co.uk
British Heart Foundation - "Chairman's 100" Sunday July 30th 2017
12 July 2017
Dear Members,

This year's fund raising effort will be in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

To simplify the admin this year, to maximise the amount which goes to the BHF and, where appropriate, take advantage of "Gift Aid", please go directly to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) website at www.bhf.org.uk and make your contribution.

Don't wait, do it now!

You will be asked by the Club to verbally confirm that you have donated, so we can calculate an approximate total, and to record those who are entitled to a "100" certificate. If you are unable to visit the BHF website for any reason, Committee members will be happy to take donations, but this option means that for every £10, the BHF potentially loses £2.50 of Gift Aid. Best wishes and "Thanks" in advance for another great fund-raising effort.

Nigel Harrop, SCC Chairman chairman@seamonscc.co.uk
Club 25 Mile Timetrial Championship 2017 - Now Saturday 29th July 2017
11 July 2017
Despite strenuous efforts by Paul & Jeanette, for the second time in 4 weeks, we were forced to cancel tonight's event. The reasons were:- roadworks on Twemlow Lane; Concern about re routing through Goostrey; Roadworks on the alternative course out of Holmes Chapel. It would be unfair to the organisers and marshals to attempt to run this event for a third time, so we have decided on the following course of action: -

Anyone who ENTERED the original event on 13/06, or tonight's event on 11/07, will be given free entry to the Seamons Open 25 on J2/9 at 2pm on Saturday 29th July. Those members, AND ONLY THOSE MEMBERS, will be eligible for this years Club 25 Champs. You will need to enter again, "on-line", using the CTT website and pay the entry fee. This will be refunded at a later date. If you are unsure how to do an "on-line" entry please let Paul, Jeanette, Charles, me or any other experienced member for assistance. Finally, "Many Thanks" to all the Marshals, competitors and others for your support. Sadly, on this occasion the road mending gods have defeated us all.

Closing date for the Seamons Open 25 is 23:59 on 18th July so please get your entries in before then as they cannot be accepted after this date. https://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/race-details/15641

Summer Social - Sunday 20th August 2017 at 2:00 pm
06 July 2017
To celebrate the end of our British Summer the Club is holding its own annual Summer Social event on the 20th August (Sunday) at The Rope and Anchor in Dunham Massey at 2pm. http://www.theropeandanchor.co.uk/

The Barn has been booked for our convenience, so whatever the weather will be, we can still enjoy our party. Plenty of spaces for bikes, tricycles or cars and a great outdoor area for children.

The club is subsidising the event so the cost for the buffet will be £6.00 pp members/spouse, children £4.00 pp.

You can come straight from your Sunday ride or you could drive there, entirely up to you, food will be served from 2pm followed by cakes and music performed by our talented Seamons musicians. Please let me know no later than the 8th August. You can either Email me at socialsec@seamonscc.co.uk or, post a message on the SCC Facebook page. Looking forward to seeing you on the day to celebrate another great Seamons event.

Rather belatedly congratulations to Dan Mathers (4:02:25), Adrian Hughes (4:03:20) & Martin Wiggan (4:09:50) on setting new club team record at 100 miles of 12:15:35 in the 2016 M&DTTA event on the J4/18 course. Previous record was 12:28:15 set way back in 1966 by Stacey/Boydell/Smith.
New Vets 100 Mile Record on Standard
04 July 2017
Congratulations to Adrian Hughes on setting new club veteran's record on standard at 100 miles of +58:36 in the M&DTTA event on the J4/18 course. Previous record was +57:41 set by Dan Mathers in 2014.
Gordon Pickering
04 July 2017
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Gordon Pickering, President and Chairman of the M&DTTA, and Time-keeper extraordinaire in all our Cheshire events.

Most people who have ridden a time trial on a "J" course will have met Gordon - for the last few years he was the regular start timekeeper on Cheshire. His passion for the sport and his selflessness were legendary. Rest in peace, Gordon, you will be sorely missed.

The funeral will be on Tuesday July 11th 1:30pm at Altrincham Crematorium, Whitehouse Lane, Dunham Massey. WA14 5RH. Afterwards at the John Alker Club, Flixton Road, Urmston. M41 6QY.
Club 25 Mile Timetrial Championship 2017 - Tuesday 11th July 2017
30 June 2017
The rearranged club 25 Championship TT is on Tuesday 11 July at 7:15 on JC/24. Entry will be free this year (the club will pay your fees to CTT). Hoping for lots of entries. I will need plenty of volunteers to put the signs out on the course, marshal the course, time and set voff the riders. Please let me know if you are willing to help out and support the club in this way. You must enter this TT in advance. Please let me know by email or on FB if you want to ride. I will need name, age and best 25 TT time over last 3 years, if you haven't already told me, if applicable.

Car parking arrangements are different this year. The vicar at St John the Evangelist Church, Holmes Chapel Rd (A535), Chelford is kindly allowing us to use the church car park from 6:00 - 09:30 pm. She has stressed that we must be very considerate (and not make too much noise) as the car park entrance goes very close to local residents houses.

13 June 2017
Due to ongoing roadworks tonight's Club 25 Timetrial Championship on the JC/24 is cancelled. Seven sisters has been resurfaced, but not swept, and is like a gravel pit. There are 3 other sets of roadworks on the course, one with traffic lights.

I will attempt to rearrange for Tuesday 11 July.

Club 10 & 25 Mile Timetrial Championship 2017
24 May 2017 - updated 05 June
Next Wednesday evening, 31 May, is the Club Championship 10 time trial, starting at 7:30. This is open only to club members and is free to enter (the club will pay your entry fees to CTT). I would love to see a big turnout from all the groups (half day, tempo, social, tourists). You do not need to have a TT bike, just turn up on your road bike and see how fast you can ride the course. You can enter on the night but please arrive by 7 at the latest to sign on. If you are not riding why not come along to support your club mates and/or marshal.

Helpers & Marshals Wanted - Seamons Road Race - Tuesday Evening 27th June 2017
23 May 2017
Just a reminder that Seamons CC is once again organising a very popular 33-mile road race under the TLI Cycling rules. There are many important roles to cover… for example we require marshals on each of the circuit corners, sign-on officials, car drivers to lead each race category and last but not least we need help in providing refreshments (any cake etc. donations will be gratefully received). To pledge any help, you can contact me either by a message through Facebook or email rrorg@seamonscc.co.uk

We have five Seamons CC entries so far but I hope to see some more Seamons riders entering this year's race for each category and yes… you will be cheered on all around the course!

Tour of the Berwyns/Panorama Prospect Sat May 20 2017
02 May 2017
Please would all riders note that the route in and out of Cheshire has changed this year---back to the early "2000's" route. This means that anyone riding with gpx needs to update it from the Audax UK calendar page and check out the route sheet for revised info points. The classic central section of the 200k route from Prospect Cafe to Chirk remains unchanged. Also the Milk Bar cafe in Chirk has closed, but there are alternatives.

If arriving at Willington Hall by car, please park on the grass alongside the south exit road---not in front of the Hotel. Best wishes for a great day out, David Matthews.

Some Notes from the 2016 AGM
14 November 2016
This is to let you know that at our AGM on Friday, we confirmed the current post-holders, and elected the following to any vacant positions: -

Johnny Coles Club President 2016-2018
Maria Rothwell Social Secretary
Nigel Harrop to “caretake” RR Sec post until a replacement can be found
Gordon Jones Welfare Officer
Steve Coomber Auditor 2
Keith Stacey Magazine Editor, now receiving magazine contributions!
Mike Brookes Club 10 Coordinator
Urgently Needed!! Seamons Evening RR Organiser. (Lots of support provided!)

Club Rule 22: re SCC approved providers of £10 million Third Party Liability Insurance: - TLI Cycling is added to the list of approved insurance providers. (BC Ride/Silver Gold; Cycling UK; The LVRC; and TLI Cycling).

Please Note – when accessing any insurance, members are strongly recommended to read carefully and understand which aspects of cycling are, or are not, included. All four Insurance providers named above meet the basic requirements to ride with the Club.

The Cyclists Touring Club, or CTC as they were formerly known, is now “Cycling UK”

You must have current Third Party Ins from one of the above to ride with SCC.

Rule 19: regarding the eligibility of Youth and Junior members for our own Club’s season-long competitions, to be rewritten as follows: -

"For the purpose of these rules, the age category definitions for SCC competitions will be: Youth for Under 16, Junior for 16-17. Youth and Junior riders move up a category at the year-end, following their 15th and 17th birthdays respectively"

“Many thanks” to everyone who attended an excellent meeting, and to all those who put themselves forward for any role in 2017. SCC is as strong as its members. Without your contributions we would not be the popular and successful cycling club that we all know and enjoy.

As of the end of October, Chapel Lane (the road linking Bucklow Hill and High Legh) is PROPERLY SHUT where the new road crosses it. According to the notices this will be the ongoing situation until January 2017 when the new bridge should be open.

From our point of view the obvious solution is to avoid the area completely by using the route via the Swan with Two Nicks at Little Bollington.

But if you do go out via Rostherne and get to the lights on the A556 there is another option which worked for us on 3 November. A Highways Agency worker told us the new Millington bridge was open over what will be the new road. There were cones on the A556 and there is a pavement; we took advantage of both and headed towards Altrincham on the A556 for about half a mile; then left over the brand new bridge; down to the Adventure Farm; and left for High Legh. It wouldn’t work going the other way because you’d be riding against the traffic in places.

EVENTUALLY there will be a really nice ‘new’ route for us linking Rostherne and Millington, but only when the new road is opened and the present A556 becomes a country lane.

Winter Club Kit
01 November 2016
Latest kit order has now been delivered to Jeanette. Contact her to arrange collection. If not collected by Friday morning 4 November, she will bring to the AGM on Friday 11 November.

Due to demand the team store will open again on Thursday 3 November until Sunday 13 November. This will be the last time the store will open this year. Items will arrive between 5-12 December so perhaps persuade relatives to buy you presents of club kit. There were a few people last time who left it to last minute and had some problems so my advice is process your order sooner rather than later. If you are having any problems with the website try using a desktop computer and if still problems contact me or Pactimo directly before the team store closes.

There is one pair of Pactimo bib longs (size medium) in stock so if you want them, check with Jeanette if they are still available before you place your order online.

Notice of Annual General Meeting 2016
30 September 2016
By tradition, the meeting takes place on the second Friday in November which this year is the 11th November.

At present, most of the current committee are prepared to stand again for election although there are a few vacant roles including Entertainment Officer. If anyone wants to take on one of the roles, I would encourage members to put their name forward.

The agenda for the meeting will include additional items proposed by members. If you have any items or issues that you want to raise during the AGM, then I would invite you to please write to me with details so these can be included in the Agenda for the night. Items for inclusion into the AGM need to be submitted on or before the 14th October (28 days before the meeting).

Club Kit
03 September 2016
Several people have asked will we be offering a heavy winter jacket. The answer is probably yes. I have arranged for size samples of the Pactimo Ouray winter jacket and the Ouray winter bib tights to be with me for the weekend of Friday 16, Sat 17 and Sunday 18 September. This will be your only opportunity to try winter kit for size. Even if you dont want to buy this year, it will be worth your while trying for future reference. I will also have a sample pair of the... Ascent overshoes for you to look at. The bib tights are already available to order whenever the team store is open (and I have one pair, size medium, in stock and available immediately). The Ouray jacket and overshoes are not yet in our Team Store but if there is demand for them, I will add them to the Team store by next time it opens (which will be at the end of September, delivery end October). Chester & N Wales CTC/Audax Rides From Tattenhall
15 July 2016
Saturday September 3rd 2016
Organised by Dave Matthews - Seamons CC Member

These three Audax rides start from Old Ma’s Coffee Shop near Tattenhall---approximately 10k SE of Chester. Lots of free car parking if needed.

“Pistyll Packing Momma” 200k heads out to Chirk and then visits Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall which at 240ft is one of the wonders of N. Wales. The ride then continues to Lake Vyrnwy and Bala before returning to Cheshire via the Shelf and Hope Mountain. A tough ride with 3600m of climbing.

“Momma’s Mountain Views” 130k follows the same route to Chirk before heading over to Llangollen with superb views of the Berwyn mountains. Next comes The Panorama before climbing the Old Horseshoe Pass to Ponderosa cafe & return via Hope Mountain.

“Momma’s Leafy Lanes” 50k gives a pleasant, undulating ride which is an ideal, easy introduction to Audax riding.

SCC Annual "Chairman's 100 Ride" - Sunday 31st July 2016
08 July 2016
This year our annual charity fund-raising ride is on the new date of Sunday 31st July, starting at 9am outside Rackhams. You can choose between 100 miles and 100 km and, as usual, there will a group to suit everyone. The two "official" routes are shown here, but so long as you do 100 of something, you are invited to take part and contribute.

The routes for the two rides starting at Rackhams can be viewed or downloaded as follows:
100 Miles: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1816228
100 Kilometres: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1816230

This year we will divide the money raised between two charities that are very close to some of our members:
  • The first will be Multiple Sclerosis UK. MS is a disease which has affected the families of some of our members, including my own many years ago.

  • The second will be St Anne's Hospice. This charity has played a big part in supporting the families of some of our members. Four years ago they provided excellent care for Bob Davies, a highly regarded former member.
The suggested donation is £10 per member, but any contribution will be gratefully received. (Even if you are unable to join or complete the official ride). Collection envelopes will be available at Rackhams from Sunday 17th June, or at the Club-room each Friday. Basically just put your donation in any envelope, write your name on the outside, hand to any Committee member, or post to either myself or John Hammond's address.

Many thanks for supporting these excellent causes,
Nigel Harrop, Chairman

Club Championship 10 & 25 Mile Timetrials

17 May 2016
On Wednesday 1st June it is our annual Club Championship 10 mile time trial, an ideal opportunity to try your first event. It is on the usual Wednesday night course and starts at 7:30 pm and you can sign on, on the night, before 7:15 (£3.00 entry). This event is only open to Seamon's members. You do not need a TT bike, pointy helmet, skin-suit etc., just use your usual bike, but you must have a back light (and I would recommend a front light too). I would love to see plenty of you, from all the different sections of the club, giving it a go (we can have up to 50 riders), so I hope to see lots of new faces in addition to the usual crew a week on Wednesday.

The 10 mile TT course can be viewed here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/7277541

NB. The Club Championship 25 TT is on Tuesday 14 June, again I am hoping for lots of entries, but you will need to sign on in advance. I will have an entry form nearer the time. I will also need plenty of marshals for the 25, so let me know if you are happy to help out.

The 25 mile TT course can be viewed here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/1816243

Chairman's Message
18 March 2016

Everyone will be aware that quite a few people have put a lot of time and effort into the smooth running of our Club in the last few months. Words cannot adequately convey the thanks that we owe to them, but even so, I would like to place on record the Club's appreciation to Jeanette Barber and the volunteer members of the Kit Design Group. When this process was kick-started back in October, none of us could have expected the excellent work that was to follow, and the positive response of so many members.

The Club Handbook, produced by Neil Rothwell, distributed by Gordon Peake and helpers, all backed up by support from John Hammond and Mike Brooks, is an excellent representation of what our Club is all about.

There will be many other unmentioned and unnoticed contributions from individuals which benefit us all, so "Thank you" to everyone. Let's all look forward to the 2016 racing, touring, and general cycling season bringing even more success and enjoyment than 2015 did!

Can't wait for the new kit!

With a warm welcome to all of our new members

The first Club 10 will now be on Wednesday 4th May.

Seamons CC Kit - Storm Hybrid Jackets
05 March 2016

The Storm Hybrid jacket is now on the Team Store. NB. Pactimo have not been able to set the ordering system to enable us to select different size armwarmers. Order the jacket in your size and, if the armwarmers are too baggy, they will exchange them for a smaller size at no further cost.

For instructions on how to access the Team Store see here: Club Kit
Team Store for Seamons Kit Will Open Thursday 3 March
02 March 2016

The online Team Store will open tomorrow, Thursday 3 March, and will remain open until the end of Sunday 13th March. You MUST go online and order any kit you require within this time.

I will probably open the Team Store only three times per year, depending on demand, so if you want kit for this spring or summer you will need to order now.

The following items will be available to buy:
Continental short sleeve jerseys (men’s and women’s)
Continental long sleeve jerseys (men’s and women’s)
Ascent 2.0 short sleeve jerseys (men’s and women’s)
Ascent Vector PRO Bib shorts (men’s and women’s)
Ascent Short sleeve skin suit (men’s and women’s)
Storm hybrid jacket with matching arm warmers (unisex) (* SEE NOTE BELOW)
Ouray thermal bib tights (unisex)
Breckenridge WX-D Vest – gilet (men’s and women’s)
Breckenridge WX-D jacket (men’s and women’s)
Evergreen lightweight vest – gilet (men’s and women’s)
Cycling cap
Arm warmers
Track mitts

(* Several members commented that they required a different size arm warmer than the main jacket (e.g. medium jacket but small arm warmers). Pactimo do not usually offer the option of mixing sizes for the Storm Hybrid jacket on customised kit, but they have agreed to do so for us. This has caused a slight delay, so the Storm Hybrid jacket does not yet appear on our Team Store (but it will do very soon). I will post on FB and put on the news section of the club website as soon as it is in the Team Store).

Please note that the prices quoted on the website for each item, do not include VAT or shipping. VAT (at 20%) and shipping (at 2%) will be added at checkout.

All orders are guaranteed to be delivered to me within 5 weeks of the date that the Team Store closes. All orders will be brought to the club room on Friday 22nd April. Please make a note of this date and come to collect your kit then. (If they arrive earlier I will bring them to the club room on Friday 15th April).

We are using PACTIMO as our supplier from now on for several reasons:

The quality of their garments is very good.
Prices are competitive.
They have a guaranteed 5 week delivery time (from the closing of the Team Store).
Club members individually go onto the on-line Team Store and buy the garments and sizes that they want in a typical online shopping experience. Every garment we are offering in our Team Store will be described in detail and shown in 2D mock-ups.
For our first order only, there is a minimum of 5 per item. After that, there is no minimum on reorders of any item.
As long as 5 men’s items are ordered, the women’s minimum of 5 per item is waived for specific garments that are identical in description (e.g. men’s and women’s Ascent Jersey).
All orders are delivered to me (the kit co-ordinator) pre-sorted for each individual member, ready for collection.

If you did not get to the kit night and were unable to try the Pactimo kit for size there are size guides on their website. You could also ask other members who you know take the same size as you in present kit, which sizes fitted in Pactimo kit. There is also lots of information about the technical qualities of each of the items that you can buy on the Pactimo website.

For instructions on how to access the Team Store see here: Club Kit
Seamons CC Kit Re-Design
18 February 2016

The proof plus fabric samples of the new kit design have arrived. The squirrel watermark was not as the kit redesign group were expecting, it was not a subtle shading. The kit group have, therefore, decided to remove it completely. The front bottom panel of the shirt will be plain royal blue.

Kit Night - Wednesday 17th February 2016
13 February 2016

Jeanette is hosting a “KIT NIGHT” at her house this Wednesday 17th February. You can call in any time from 4:00 until 9:30 pm.

As you know we are changing our kit supplier to PACTIMO.

There will be a full set of size samples, so you can try kit so that you know exactly what size you need in Pactimo kit.

There will be examples of all the different items of kit that you will be able to buy from the online shop - short and long sleeved jerseys, gilets, windproof/showerproof jackets, bib shorts, bib knickers (3/4 length), bib longs, skin suits, caps, arm-warmers, 100% waterproof jackets etc.

It is intended that the online Team Store will be open from 7-18 March. Pactimo guarantee a delivery time of 5 weeks from the date the online team store closes so any kit ordered by 18 March will arrive in time for the warmer weather.

Even if you are not thinking of buying anything just yet, do try to come along as this will be the only opportunity to try for size and then you will know for future reference what size you take in Pactimo. Also worth having a good look at the kit we will be offering.

We are using PACTIMO as our supplier from now on for several reasons:
  • The quality of their garments is very good.

  • Prices are competitive.

  • They have a guaranteed 5 week delivery time (from the closing of the Team Store).

  • Club members individually go onto the on-line Team Store and buy the garments and sizes that they want in a typical online shopping experience. Every garment we are offering in our Team Store will be described in detail and shown in 2D mock-ups.

  • For our first order only, there is a minimum of 5 per item. After that, there is no minimum on reorders of any item.
WeI are hoping to get the Team Store up and running and open for 12 days from the 7 to 18 March. So anything ordered should arrive with Jeanette by the 22 April, ready to distribute to members.

Please try and call in on Wednesday 17th February.
Seamons CC Kit Re-Design - Voting Round 2
08 February 2016

Dear Seamons CC Member,

As requested at the AGM in November, you are being asked to choose between the winning kit design from Round 1, and our current kit design. You must be a fully paid-up member of Seamons CC for your vote to be included.

Please select the design you would like the Club to use for the foreseeable future and reply, either by email to sec@seamonscc.co.uk or by post as per the circulated voting form.

It is in order to Email your preference to me without using the form, but please state clearly either Option 1 (New) or Option 2 (Current) and your name. Votes must be received by 9pm on Friday 12th February to count.

You may also deliver your vote in person to the Clubroom on that night by the deadline of 9pm.

The images below do not do justice the final colours. They will be as close as possible to those on the current kit. As we have a new supplier, the colours will be identical on both choices.

Please Note: the squirrel on the proposed new design will appear as a watermark, not as a stand out feature. The shorts will be the same whichever Option you choose.

General Secretary, Seamons CC sec@seamonscc.co.uk.
Kit Night - Wednesday 17th February 2016
05 February 2016

I will be holding a “KIT NIGHT” at my house on Wednesday 17th February.

You can call in any time from 4:00 until 9:30 pm to look at examples of the PACTIMO kit that you will be able to buy in our current or, hopefully new, club design.

There will also be a full set of size samples, so you can try on and see which size you need to order.

I am hoping to get the Team Store up and running and open for 12 days from the 7 to 18 March. So anything ordered should arrive with me by the 22 April, ready to distribute to members.

Please try and call in on Wednesday 17th February. Look forward to seeing you then.

Annual Club Dinner & Prize Presentation - 6th Febuary 2016
06 January 2016
Club Dinner Tickets are now on sale.

The annual dinner is a celebration of Seamons cycling success in 2015 - it's when we give out annual awards and trophies - just as important, if not more so, it's a chance to get together with cycling friends & have a great time. Partners & friends are very, very welcome - the more the merrier!

It's at the Cresta Court on the 6th of Feb, 6:30 for 7pm. You will need to buy a ticket in advance - £25 (£12.50 for juniors). I will be collecting at Rackhams on Sunday's leading up to the dinner, or, you can pop it to me at my home address (See the handbook). Cash or cheque (Seamons CC).

Seamons CC Membership for 2016
18 December 2015
Would you please renew your club membership for 2016 asap, and no later than January 31st 2016. After that date there is an additional charge for membership and, if you have not joined or renewed, you will not be entitled to vote in the final round of the Kit Redesign process.

If any of your details have changed during 2015, and you have not notified Mike Brooks info@seamonscc.co.uk our Membership Secretary, particularly your contact details, and/or Email address, you MUST complete a Membership Application Form, available to download from the Club website.

This is important for three reasons:
  • We may need to contact you or your home, in the event of an emergency.

  • If you have specified that you wish to receive club communications electronically and your Email address has changed, you will not receive important info which is sent out from time to time. This would include notification of the AGM, or voting procedures, for example.

  • It is your responsibility to ensure that you are always covered by Third Party Public Liability Insurance, and to provide the details. The Club only accepts Insurance provided by either BC (Ride, Silver or Gold), the CTC, or the LVRC. No other Insurance providers are accepted by Seamons CC for you to participate in our group rides.
Additionally a large number of our members are now paying their annual subscription by Standing Order. This is a great help to our Treasurer, John Hammond treas@seamonscc.co.uk. Please contact him for details about how to set up your Standing Order.

Finally the Club has enjoyed another great year of competitive success, group rides both locally, nationally and in Europe, and social events. We have more members than ever and, if last weeks Christmas Fancy Dress Ride is any indication, more fun than ever! Tickets are now "on sale" for our annual Club Dinner and Prize Presentation at the Cresta Court on Saturday 6th February. I hope you will be able to be there?

On behalf of the Committee, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and all the very best of everything in in 2016. Thank you once again for being a great Club.

Seamons Kit Redesign Update - Important Notice
17 December 2015
This is an update on the Seamons CC Kit Redesign following the discussion at the AGM in November.

The Working Group have been considering designs for the new kit. This has taken a little longer than anticipated, so the group will now meet in early January to finalise the presentation of the preferred choices. The working Group would like to thank everyone who has submitted designs for consideration.

The vote for a final design, from a shortlist of up to 3 preferred designs, will be in mid-January. All current members will be eligible to participate. The second vote, to decide between the winning redesign and the current kit (as requested by the AGM), is intended to be in early February and completed by the day after the Club Dinner on Saturday 6th February. Only members who have rejoined the Club for 2016 will be eligible to participate in this second vote.

Voting will be organised by Email. Paper voting will be available for those members without an Email address. Reminders will be placed on this the Website, the SCC Facebook page and the club notice board.

The Working Group have also recommended changing to new manufacturer for our kit. Subject to representatives of the Committee being satisfied with the terms of a new contract, this should also be in place for the New Year, irrespective of the outcome of the final kit redesign vote.

Many thanks.
David Hoyle (for and on behalf of the SCC Committee)
Club Racing Standard Claims for 2015
17 December 2015
It's time again to remind everyone that within the club there are bronze, silver and gold standards for time trialling. The times are laid out in the club handbook. If you have reached one of those standards this year for the first time, please let the TT Secretary know and you'll get a certificate and optionally a medal in recognition. You'll have to get the claim in before the end of the year though. Contact Charles Carraz or Paul Barber ttsec@seamonscc.co.uk.

If you don't have any standards to claim this year why not make it a target for 2016. It's only your personal time that counts - you don't have to win any race to achieve it.

New Club & VTTA Manchester & NW 15 Mile Record
29 October 2015
Congratulations to John Verbickas whose ride of 00:39:15 in the Yorkshire CF event on the V728 in June has now been confirmed as a VTTA Manchester & NW age related record at 15 miles (69 years). 15 miles has been recognised by the VTTA as an official timetrialing distance since 2013.

We will now be recording club records at 15 miles which will appear online and in the club handbook. This then makes John the current & first holder of the club record, all age vets record and vets record on standard (+4:20) at 15 miles.
Club Kit Redesign - October to December 2015
27 October 2015
The committee has agreed that this is an appropriate time to consider new design proposals for our club kit.

A small working group, led by the Kit Coordinator, Jeanette Barber, and including John Spearman, will look at, and consider, designs for new kit. Please contact Jeanette if you wish to volunteer. In order for the group to work efficiently, the maximum number of members will be 5 or 6.

We already have some design possibilities, which will available at the AGM, but obviously there may be, or will be, many other suggestions. Please send your design ideas to Jeanette by Sunday 13th December. Black & white drawings / sketches are fine, just indicate which colour, letters or logos go where. There is no requirement to include the club website address.

Members will be invited to vote on a possible final design by internet or post, by the end of December 2015. After being professionally worked up and then approved by the working group, the new design could be available in time for a Spring order.

The current club design will remain available, at least in the short term, as well as offering the new club kit design.

A clear condition of this exercise must be that any new design uses the existing club colours (gold/yellow, blue and white, as in the Constitution) and that the use of colour in the final design, particularly on the “tops” creates a visible finished product.

There will be a further opportunity for discussion under AOB at the AGM on Friday 13th November.

Notice Of Annual General Meeting 2015
21 September 2015
By tradition, the meeting takes place on the second Friday in November which this year is the 13th November. The meeting will start at 8pm at St. George’s Church Hall, Altrincham.

The meeting will include reports from all the club’s officers and the audited statement of accounts, will elect club officials and will handle any other business required. I would also like to remind everyone that all club roles (apart from President) are up for election. Nominations for the Vice-President are required to be submitted in writing before the AGM. At present most of the current committee are prepared to stand again for election although there are a few vacant roles including Junior Representative and Public Relations Officer. If anyone wants to take on one of the roles, I would encourage members to put their name forward.

The agenda for the meeting will include additional items proposed by members. If you have any items or issues that you want raising during the AGM, then I would invite you to please write to me with details so these can be included in the Agenda for the night. Items for inclusion into the AGM need to be submitted on or before the 16th October (28 days before the meeting). Each item will need a proposer, someone to second the motion and also a title and details. Be aware that you will be asked to introduce your motion at the AGM. An example agenda item would look something like the following:

Agenda Item Title
Proposed: J Smith Seconded: W Jones
Proposal: “Proposition that …” Reason – To improve ….

I look forward to seeing people on the night.

New Seamons Cycling Club Facebook Page
19 September 2015
Seamons CC would like to place on record its appreciation to Ian Holmes for creating and overseeing the Seamons Social Facebook page which has proved to be a very useful forum for discussion. However as there are different views about the way in which access to this "unofficial" Club FB page is being managed and membership allowed/denied, as well as the appropriateness of some exchanges, Seamons CC is ending its association with this site, with immediate effect.

From this point onwards all legitimate communication regarding Seamons CC will only appear on this Club website or be posted on the new "Seamons Cycling Club" FB page, to which all paid-up member of the club will have access.

It will still be a closed group and the content will be moderated by the elected Club Committee.

Chairman's 100 Mile & 100 Km Charity Ride - Sunday 27th September
17 September 2015
On Sunday 27th September the Seamons CC will hold the annual 100 Mile or 100 Kilometre charity cycle ride. The expectation is that on this one day of the year, members donate £10, either in advance or on the day of the ride. Your donation can be handed to any Committee member or, if you are on the "Tour of the Alpes" ride, to Nigel H.

This year we will once again be supporting the NW Air Ambulance (www.nwaa.net) and the UK Multiple Sclerosis Society, (www.mssociety.org.uk). So, wherever you are riding on the 27th, and whether it’s 100 miles or 100 kilometres, I hope you will feel able to support these two very deserving charities.

The routes for the two rides starting at Rackhams can be viewed or downloaded as follows:

A Chance To Remember
10 September 2015
This Sunday's club run to Chester is in remembrance of clubmates who are no longer with us. Called the Bob Richie Run in honour of one of our founding members for whom riding to Chester was one of his favourite days out on the bike, the ride remembers not only Bob but all of our clubmates who now ride the lanes elsewhere. You can read more about Bob and other honoured clubmen in your Seamons handbook. The Bob Richie Run is one of the club's 'calendar rides' - events that always happen on the same weekend in the Seamons calendar. Other dates for your calendar coming up include:
  • Bob Richie Run - second Sunday in September

  • Chairman's 100 - last Sunday in September

  • Club Hill Climb - first Sunday in October

  • Hot Pot Run - December 13

  • Club Dinner - February 6

  • Llangollen Direct - first Sunday in March
The club handbook has details of these and other events and there'll be a piece on club traditions in the next edition of the Squirrel (another tradition in itself).
Seamons Open 25 - Saturday 19th September 10.00am
07 September 2015
The Seamons Open 25 mile TT will be held on Saturday 19th. We have more than 60 entries for it already and should get a few more before the closing date this Wednesday. This event is made possible by club volunteers helping out with the catering, signs, signing on, marshalling etc. We particularly need marshals for this year's event so if you can spare your Saturday morning to help make the event safe please get in touch with me, either by ttsec@seamonscc.co.uk or on Facebook.

Seamons Fun 10
13 August 2015
SEAMONS FUN 10 - 19th August

The regular Club 10 season is now over but there's one last event coming up. The Fun 10 is next Wednesday 19th August, first rider off at 7.00pm, sign-on in the layby as for normal club 10. This is a Fancy Dress* 2-Up starting at the Bears Paw, turn left at the White House, left again onto Swineyard Lane, out onto the A50 and finish back at the Bears Paw. That makes 5 miles so it's not really a 10 but it will stll be fun. Drinks in the Bears Paw afterwards. This is open to all club members so if your an experienced tester or new to riding this year come and have a go.

* Fancy Dress optional.

Seamons Summer Social
08 July 2015
**Diary Date: Seamons Summer Social - Sunday Aug 9th, 2pm - **£5**

Hi everyone, on Sunday 9th August, we will be meeting at the Railway Inn, Mobberley, for a bit of a do! The pub is a short detour off the usual run in - so you can swing by on your route home. If you’ve not been before, the pub has a lovely large and secure garden area with climbing frames & marquee. Families are very welcome - I'm thinking of riding out with the kids, or, we might go on the train which is right next to the pub.
For £5 you get a buffet lunch (sandwiches, pies etc). For desert… perhaps a mini Seamons Bakeoff??

Please let me know if you're coming & if you're bringing anyone along. I will start collecting money on club runs from the 19th July. I would really appreciate some help with that if there are any volunteers? Cheers!

Next Club Kit Order - 12th July 2015
18 June 2015
The next kit order will be submitted on Monday 12th July. It should arrive end September (so think about winter kit requirements now, it will be too late if you wait until the cold weather arrives).

We have reverted to Giordana, for this order, due to technical issues with the last order.

Note that a minimum order of 10 of each item is required and there is, therefore, a possibility that we may not be able to order everything that is requested.

Giordana have upgraded some items:
  • Gilets now have rear pockets.

  • Men's short sleeved jerseys are now in the higher quality Michron fabric (the women's SS jerseys used this fabric).

  • All zips are now CAM-LOCK zippers (better quality) and in the short and long sleeved jerseys are hidden zips.

  • All shorts, longs etc. now have the top quality T-SELECT GEL-O.F. pad (gender-specific).
Order forms and full details of the Giordana kit, together with a size guide, are available on the web-site under the kit tab.

I will need a completed order form, together with a 50% deposit, by Sunday 11 July at the very latest.

If you are unsure of sizes, the best bet is to ask other members if you can try theirs for size. I do hold a limited amount of stock, available immediately, it is detailed under the kit tab on the website.

At the end of Twemlow turn left and continue until Chelford RoB, take second exit and continue until Booth’s Hall island. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/8465711

Club events cannot happen without the help of volunteers and we really need helpers on the night to marshal the various junctions. Please let me know if you are able to help, we need as many people as possible to make this event safe for our riders.

Seamons CC Sunday Club Rides
10 June 2015
To All Seamons CC Members,

This is to remind all members who participate in our Sunday rides that there are expectations placed on each one of us to ensure that the experience of group riding is as pleasant and friendly as it can be.

Recently, concerns have been expressed that some members, particularly when joining a group which usually moves at a lower average speed than they themselves may be used to, are imposing a higher average speed, to the detriment of the established group’s enjoyment. Indeed some members may have been deterred from further participation with their regular group! I am sure this is an unintended consequence, but never-the-less, something that must be avoided in the future.

The introductory sentence of the SCC Club runs ride description clearly states: - “Each one of our Sunday Rides is open to members and guests. Should you opt to change from your usual group for a ride, it is essential that you observe the guidelines for the group you have joined

Section F of the membership Application form, which we all sign up to, states: - “I have read and understand the Ride Descriptions and Guidelines on the club’s website”. So, if you have not done so, please refer to these documents in the “Downloads” section of this website and observe the guidance on future club rides, particularly with regard to speed and group riding etiquette such as no half-wheeling, waiting where necessary and looking out for one another.

Nigel Harrop, Seamons CC Chairman.
Seamons Club 10 Championships
29 May 2015
The Seamons Club 10 Championships are being held next Wednesday 3rd June, first rider off at 7.30pm. Due to roadworks on Swineyard Lane/Barleycastle road we are going to use the old Club 10 Champs course (JC33) instead of the 10 course we’ve used this year.

This event is open to all members of Seamons and is for all abilities, pointy helmets and disc wheels are not essential! It’s the ideal event to try out timetrialling with fellow club mates. Entry fee is £3 for members, £2 for juniors.

The course starts at the first layby on the A50 after Mere, proceeds westwards on the A50 and turn left at Heath Lane, left on to Swineyard Lane and left again on to the A50 (take extra care when joining the main carrieageway). Continue on the A50 and encircle the Lymm services roundabout and then return on the A50, finishing between the Kilton pub and the starting layby.

Riders can sign on and get their numbers from 6.30pm on Ditchfield Lane (turn off the A50 to the High Legh Garden Centre and first left). Please park on the left side of the lane using the wide verge between the Garden Centre exit and the Garden Centre deliveries entrance. Please keep well away from any private houses or areas of mown verge.

We can't guarantee great weather but there is a confident forecast of some top messing!

Change of Meeting Point - Sunday 19th April
18 April 2015
The Greater Manchester Marathon will be taking place on Sunday 19th April and some of the roads around Altrincham are on the route. Road closures on the day mean that our club runs won't be able to start from Rackhams as normal.

For one Sunday only, runs will start at the usual time but from the car park at Hale Railway Station, off Victoria Road.

Your route to the car park may be affected by the road closures so check and be prepared to go a different way if you're planning to meet up that Sunday.

Seamons CC 10 mile TT Wednesday Night Series
07 April 2015
With roadworks in progress on the A50 near Mere, we are changing the course for the Club 10. The new course is a full 10 miles and still uses part of the old course.

Course Details:
Start at the end of the lay-by opposite the Bears Paw on the A50. After 0.1 miles, turn left on to Swineyard Lane. Proceed for 3.2 miles and encircle the roundabout, returning on to Swineyard Lane at 6.4 miles. Turn left on to the A50 and continue until the Lymm Services Roundabout at 8.0 miles. Encircle and return on the A50, going past the start line and finishing by a gate on the A50, roughly halfway between Crabtree Lane and West Lane. The route can be viewed here: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7277541

The route introduces a left hand turn immediately after the start on to Swineyard Lane and a sharp left hand turn from Swineyard Lane on to the A50 with oncoming traffic. Rider safety is of paramount importance. Marshals will be present to indicate directions and observe rider behaviour. At the Swineyard Lane/A50 junction, riders must not cross the centreline on Swineyard Lane in order to straighten the corner and must remain in the narrow feeder lane when joining the A50, until it is safe to exit. Any rider not following these safety instructions will in the first instance be disqualified. Riders must also take care when entering the roundabouts. After finishing, riders must not do a u-turn in the vicinity of the start and finish line. As the A50 is a busy road, it is recommended riders use the triangle at High Legh or loop round West Lane/Mowpen Brow/Crabtree Lane to return to the Bears Paw lay-by to give back their number.

Signing-on procedure:
Signing-on will be at the starting lay-by near the Bears Paw. It is large and should be able to accommodate the majority of entrants. However if this is full, then Ditchfield Lane (turn left after the High Legh Garden Centre) that we used for a period last year is another possibility and is very close to the start/finish. Please park considerately and do not obstruct the road. The Bear's Paw car park is for customers only, please do not park there.

The event is limited to a maximum of 50 riders and 30 of those places are initially reserved for Seamons members and a further 15 spaces for North Cheshire Clarion.
  • For the first two weeks, first rider is off at 7pm. 3rd week is 7.15pm and after that 7.30pm until the last 3 TT of the season.

  • All potential entrants may sign-on from 6.00pm but in order to secure a reserved place in the event, Seamons CC members must sign-on no later than 6.20pm.

  • From 6.20pm event places will be allocated on a "first come first served" basis to all potential places, up to the permitted maximum of 50 riders.

  • No one will be allowed to reserve places for friends and the latest signing-on time will be 6.50pm or 10 minutes before the start time. After 6.50pm the organisers will be preparing for the Start.

  • These timings apply to the first two weeks with a 7pm start time and will go back 15 and 30mins as the race times get later.

  • Signing-on at the Start is not permitted.

2015 Handbook, Contact List & Membership Cards
04 March 2015
Over the next week or so the 2015 Club Handbook should be delivered through your letter box. If you have opted to receive the Handbook electronically it will soon appear on the Club website's "Documents" section for you to view or to print off.

This year, in response to some concerns, members contact details will be distributed separately in the mailing, together with a 2015 Membership card. You will need to add your name to the front, and contact details to the back, of your Membership card, before sealing it within the clear plastic wallet provided. It might be a good idea to carry your membership card with you when cycling, especially if your "In Case of Emergency" (ICE) number is contained within a locked phone!

Both Velo Espresso, Moss Lane in Altrincham, and Altrincham Bike Shak, Oakfield Trading Estate, are offering 20% and 10% discounts respectively, to Seamons CC members, so you can begin to save without delay! Do check carefully just which items are included in this generous offer.

Those of you who have opted for the on-line version of the Handbook will need to pick up the Members Contact List, and your 2015 Membership Card from the Club room. Finally the Club would like the thank Neil Rothwell for producing the Handbook, Steve Stoddart for masterminding the Membership card, Mike Brooks and John Hammond for administering the Membership and providing the Contacts list, and Gordon Peake for overseeing the complexities of its distribution.

2015 Handbook - Club Records
27 January 2015
In the 2015 Handbook (which will be available shortly after the annual club dinner) we are adding additional categories to the club records: Team 12 & 24 hour, Ladies 2 rider & 3 rider Team records and Junior records at 10, 25, 30 & 50 miles. Going back over the club database (which exists back to 2003) and also by asking around this is what I have so far. If anyone knows of any other records both past & present that are missing could they please let me know. We will also be including a full list of past Llangollen winners.

What Size Should I Order In Bioracer Cycle Clothing?
26 January 2015
Bioracer kit is available in sizes 1-9 for adult men and sizes 1-9 for adult women. At the recent kit evening full sets of size samples were available to try and to give a feel for the sizes you should order in the Bioracer kit, some members have kindly told me what size they are in Bioracer kit and what size they take in the existing Giordana kit. I hope this document helps.

Steve Abraham, Annual Mileage Record Attempt
21 January 2015
Back in the dark pre Second World War days of 1939,Tommy Godwin rode an outstanding 75,065 miles in a calendar year, a record which stands to this day! See www.tommygodwin.com This is an average of 205 miles per day, a distance which many experienced cyclist struggle to achieve each week!

On January 1st this year, amateur cyclist Steve Abraham began an attempt on Tommy’s record. You can follow his progress at www.oneyeartimetrial.org.uk After 3 weeks of riding Steve is a day ahead of Tommy Godwin’s progress at the same stage in 1939. But there is an awful long way to go!

Steve’s attempt on this record is a truly amateur one. He is a prodigious Audax rider who holds the ‘most Audaxpoints in a year’ record, riding 500 miles pretty much every weekend, plus a mid-week 120 miles, all while working full-time.

Steve has given up work to go for the record and is relying on the support of the cycling community to sustain his attempt. He may well ride up to the North West during the year, but if he does we will not really be able to offer encouragement “in kind” by putting him up in the Club room! So, at its last meeting, the Committee voted unanimously to donate £100 to the record attempt fund.

We wish Steve well in this extremely challenging record attempt and, whatever the final outcome, are totally behind him in trying to beat a long-standing record which many have said could never be broken.
Race-Fit Club Kit - Update
14 January 2015
KIT NIGHT at Jeanette Barber's house on THURSDAY 15th JANUARY (from 7 to 10 pm)

Kenneth Jones, from Bioracer will be at the kit night to explain the different styles/fabrics/technical qualities of the Bioracer kit.

Please can I encourage you all to attend as Kenneth has agreed to join us (and I have been busy making home-made biscuits)!

Samples of the race-fit kit (jerseys, shorts and skinsuits) and other Bioracer items will be available to look at. As mentioned before, there will be an opportunity to try for size, so even if you don't need anything at the moment do come along to see which size you need as this kit is from a different supplier (Bioracer). In time, we may move to Bioracer for all of our kit (as we can order in smaller quantities).

Details of the race-fit kit can be downloaded here.

The next kit order will be submitted at the end of January, to arrive in time for the racing / TT season. NB. A 50% deposit MUST be paid with every order.

Price list for all available Bioracer kit ranges can be downloaded here.

Club Membership for 2015 - Reminder
5 January 2015
Don't forget, club subs are now due before the end of January if you want to avoid paying extra.

You'll have noticed a reminder in the Squirrel that you need to fill out a membership application form as part of your renewal. As well as keeping the club's records up to date, it also gives you the option of opting in/out of paper mail/email notifications of things like the AGM and copies of the club magazine. If the last time you filled one of these forms was any time before 2014, you need to fill one in again please. If you filled one in last year but your details have changed, please fill one in again. Forms were printed for you in the Squirrel. You can print your own from this link: http://www.seamonscc.co.uk/JoinUs2.html if you need to. If you want to pay by standing order so much the better. There are some instructions you need to follow which are available from the treasurer. Email him here: treas@seamonscc.co.uk and he will give you the instructions about what you need to do.
Multifunctional Headwear
9 December 2014
Multifunction headwear / scarves have arrived. They look brilliant! I'll bring them to club night on Friday. There are quite a few not pre-ordered so let me know if you want one. £7.00 each. Still a few people need to collect caps and, now the cold weather has arrived, remember there are still some bib longs, Windtex winter coats and Newtrevalli wind/water proof jackets in stock.

The next order goes in at end of January and I will hold a " kit night" at my house on Thursday January 15, where you can try for size and see the new items that we will be offering (race fit jerseys, bib shorts, shorts and skin suits). These new items will be from a different supplier (Bioracer) and in time we will probably move to them for most of the kit (as they will supply us in smaller quantities), so even if you don't need to buy anything in January, it will be worthwhile to come and try the size samples so that you know what size to order for the future. NB. The design remains the same.

Club Racing Standard Claims for 2014
8 December 2014
It's time again to remind everyone that within the club there are bronze, silver and gold standards for time trialling. The times are laid out in the club handbook. If you have reached one of those standards this year for the first time, please let the TT Secretary know and you'll get a certificate and optionally a medal in recognition. You'll have to get the claim in before the end of the year though. Contact Charles Carraz ttsec@seamonscc.co.uk.

If you don't have any standards to claim this year why not make it a target for 2015. It's only your personal time that counts - you don't have to win any race to achieve it.

Club Membership for 2015
1 December 2014
At the AGM in November it was agreed that with immediate effect, any member more than 1 month in arrears, (rather than 2 months), will be considered to have lapsed their membership and, on rejoining, will incur a £5 rejoining fee.

The Membership Year ends on December 31st.

As the layout of the Membership Renewal / Application form has changed, if you did not complete a form in 2014, you must do so this year and on any other occasion when your details change. It is essential that the Club has up to date contact and emergency information.

If you are under 18 you must complete a form annually, together with the appropriate section signed by one of your Parents or Guardians.

The preferred method for payment of membership fees is by Standing Order, details of which can be obtained from the treasurer at treas@seamonscc.co.uk. A 2015 Membership Renewal / Application form is available from the "Downloads" section of this website.
* Reminder - Christmas Fancy Dress Parade *
1 December 2014
The annual Christmas fancy dress parade and lunch is almost upon us. This year it is on Sunday 14th December, lunch (with a Christmas theme) will be at the Old Market Tavern in Altrincham from noon.

The fancy dress theme this year is any character from any musical - stage or film

Loads of choice there: South Pacific, Jail House Rock, Lion King, Barnum, Rocky Horror Show, the list is almost endless.

In the absence of Mike McConville Keith Stacey is collecting money for those that have, or wish to, reserve a space for lunch. The cost for lunch at the OMT is £6.00 each.

The parade leaves Rackhams in Alty at 9:30am, heads to John Carberry's grotto in Knutsford for mulled wine and mince pies before returning to Alty just before noon.

First Aid Course 2015
26 November 2014
New Year resolution time!

Members are being offered the chance to start the New Year by making a potentially life-saving difference.

A basic first aid course is being arranged for February, with 15 places available for any member who wants to learn some skills that could really help club mates if anything unwanted happens on a run.

If you've never had first aid training before, this would suit you. If you have had first aid training before, this would suit you too. Members who had the first aid training organized by the club previously can use the February course as a refresher.

What you learn has the potential to be very useful on a club run but anyone taking the course is not expected or obliged to have any additional responsibilities when out with the club.

Spaces are limited to 15 so you must confirm in advance that you are coming. The course will run on two Friday nights at the club room, and you'll need to be available for both: February 13 and February 27.

See John Hammond at the club, put your name down on the noticeboard, or email here treas@seamonscc.co.uk to say you will attend. First come, first served.
Jon Gildea named in GB Cycling Team Squad

Multifunctional Headwear
12 November 2014
I have found a supplier who will make multifunctional headwear / neck scarves in a Seamons CC design and am trying to get a feel for how many members would want one. Let me know ASAP if you would want one as we need a minimum order number in able to proceed.

They will cost £7.00 each, if we order at least 50, (considerably less than the cost of a standard Buff™ neck scarf - a bit cheaper if we order 100).

The design would be as shown, a blue background (the standard blue used on all our kit) with our two club logos (each approximately 4 cm diameter) all over it.

(NB. The colours may not look accurate on a computer screen but they will be exactly matched to our standard club blue and yellow colours).

It will be great to use the Squirrel logo on our kit!

All the remaining caps have now arrived (approximately 30 of them allocated to those of you who have already let me know that you wanted one). I will bring them to the AGM on Friday 14th, so you can pay (£12.50) and collect them. There are also a few extras which I will bring along.

I still have items of club kit for Mike Brooks, John Barry, Ellie Reynolds and Tim Seddon which need to be collected and paid for, if not already paid in full. Please contact me to arrange collection ASAP.

Now the weather is turning cold, look at the stock list on the website as there are still a few pairs of bib longs, winter coats and wind-proof/shower proof rain coats available to buy immediately.

Club Track Night - 25th October 2014
2 October 2014
Track night - Manchester Velodrome 25th October 6-8 pm. There is a limit of 30 people who can ride, first come first served. Contact Darren Buckley cdo@seamonscc.co.uk or Facebook page. Please reply with name and if you need to rent a bike the size required. Also if you require shoes (the hire bikes have Look Delta pedals). Costs should be £10 each for track hire & coach & £12.50 for bike hire.
Seamons CC Cycling Caps Arriving Soon
1 October 2014
We have just ordered 25 Seamon’s CC caps which should arrive at the end of October / early November. They will cost £12.50 each.

They are different from the cotton caps we had previously but have been designed to coordinate with our kit (see illustration below). We have been forced to use a different supplier as Giordana could only supply caps in quantities of 200! Due to the different style (one centre and 2 side panels) it was not possible to replicate the existing design. They are available in one size only.

The classic peaked cycling cap has been bought up to date using a modern technical fabric (Cool-Fresh 140gsm fabric). This fabric is sweat wicking, UPF25+ sun-protection, antibacterial and quick drying. This fabric is far superior in function and performance than a traditional cotton twill cap and can be worn alone or under a helmet.
Please let Jeanette Barber kit_orders@seamonscc.co.uk know if you want one.
Notice of Annual General Meeting - 14th November 2014
1 October 2014
By tradition, the meeting takes place on the second Friday in November which this year is the 14th November. The meeting will start at 8pm at St George's Church Hall, Altrincham.

The meeting will include reports from all the club's officers and the audited statement of accounts, will elect club officials and will handle any other business required.

I would also like to remind everyone that all club roles (apart from Vice-President) are up for election. Nominations for the President will be taken on the night of the AGM while nominations for the other roles are required before the AGM. At present most of the current committee are prepared to stand again for election although there are a few vacant roles including Junior Representative and Public Relations Officer. If anyone wants to take on one of the roles, I would encourage members to put their name forward.

The agenda for the meeting will include additional items proposed by members. If you have any items or issues that you want raising during the AGM then I would invite you to please write to me with details so these can be included in the Agenda for the night. Items for inclusion into the AGM need to be submitted on or before the 17th October (28 days before the meeting). Each item will need a proposer, someone to second the motion and also a title and details. Be aware that you will be asked to introduce your motion at the AGM. An example agenda item would look something like the following:

Agenda Item Title
Proposed:    J Smith    Seconded: W Jones
Proposal:    "Proposition that ..." Reason - To improve ....

I look forward to seeing people on the night. Yours sincerely, David Hoyle

Chairman's 100 Mile & 100 Km Charity Ride - Sunday 28th September
19 September 2014
On Sunday 28th September the Seamons CC will hold the annual 100 Mile or 100 Kilometre charity cycle ride. The expectation is that on this one day of the year, members donate £10, either in advance or on the day of the ride. Your donation can be handed to any Committee member or, if you are on the ride in Yorkshire, to Martin Wiggan.

This year we will once again be supporting the NW Air Ambulance ( www.nwaa.net ), but a small change is that half of the proceeds will go to the UK Multiple Sclerosis Society, ( www.mssociety.org.uk ). So, wherever you are riding on the 28th, and whether it’s 100 miles or 100 kilometres, I hope you will feel able to support these two very deserving charities.

The routes for the two rides starting at Rackhams can be viewed or downloaded as follows:

100 Kilometres: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1816230

The destination is Chester, one of Bob's favourite runs, and all members are encouraged to take part and support the club and its tradition. Pick the pace that suits you by riding with the half-day, tempo or touring section. If you've not been to Chester previously, it's no more than 80 miles over mostly flat roads. Under 18's on Formal Club Rides
19 August 2014
To All Senior Members,

The Club has written to the Parents / Guardians of all Under 18 members to clarify the expectations they can reasonably hold with regard to the Social Group Ride and regarding all other formal Club rides.

Please take a minute to familiarise yourself the contents of the letter to Parents / Guardians, so that if you are either taking part in a Social Group Ride, or find yourself in another ride which contains any Under 18 members, you are aware of the standard of care we aim to provide. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch.

A copy of the letter is available here.

Seamons Social Runs - Volunteers Needed to Help!
12 August 2014
To All Members,

While Darren is unavailable, Dave Barker and I have temporarily taken over the coordination of the Social Runs List. It would be really helpful if we could have some volunteers for the weeks of 14th & 21st September and for the weeks of 5th October (Hill Climb Run) and 26th October. It would be great to have some additional offers of support for some of the other weeks too.

Please see the current social runs summary in the Documents Section of this website. Any run shown in bold type is slightly longer and more challenging than those in other weeks.

The Social Run is a vitally important introduction to cycling with Seamons CC and all offers of support are gratefully received.

Please add a message to FB or e-mail myself or Dave as follows if you are able to help: -
Nigel Harrop chairman@seamonscc.co.uk

Club Handbook & Squirrel Update
14 July 2014
The club handbook, currently available online only, will shortly be printed and posted out to you all. If you absolutely don't want to receive a printed copy, please drop an e-mail to the club secretary sec@seamonscc.co.uk and we can take you off the list. Previously every member has automatically been sent a copy.

We have a new volunteer to take over the design seat in the Squirrel's editorial team. This means we're all systems go for the next edition - the first of the year. It also means you should send your stories, photos, snippets and any other submissions to the editor so we can start pulling stuff together. It's been a while since we were last out so there should be plenty of material to come from you all! Remember, the magazine is written by you, the editorial team just package it up and print it.

Women's and Juniors' National Championship 25
27 June 2014
The Club is promoting these two events on behalf of Manchester District, Cycling Time Trials. The joint event is on Saturday 2nd August 2014, 2:00 pm start. Course J2/9 (Jodrell Bank, Chelford, Seven Sisters Lane, A50, Tremlow Lane, Chelford and repeat to finish on the A50 near Mangoletsi). Course details here.

As well as ensuring that the course is more than adequately marshalled, we will need volunteers for a range of other jobs, particularly at event HQ. We take great pride in the standard of all our promotions and this event gives us the chance to show that we can deliver a top quality event which will attract more attention than usual (big responsibility, big opportunity).

I have been asked to recruit volunteers. It will make life so much easier if you will contact me before I have to start chasing you, so, if you are not on holiday (some/many will be), please get back to me asap.

On Facebook       Or E-Mail: tcf@seamonscc.co.uk       Or Phone

If you wish, let me know of any job preference(s) or time constraints.

Social Ride Suspended - Sunday 6th July
24 June 2014
This is the Tour de France weekend in Yorkshire. Many members will be away watching, or riding out to watch, the event. This means the Club is unable to guarantee a Leader and other experienced riders to support the Social Group. Rather than disappoint anyone on the day, the decision has been taken to suspend the Social Ride for that weekend. Normal service will be resumed for Dones Green on the following weekend, Sunday 13th July. Apologies for any inconvenience.

2014 Seamons Handbook, On-line Edition
22 June 2014
Unfortunately there have been some production problems with the 2014 Handbook leading to a delay in publication. Thanks to Neil Rothwell, assisted by John Carberry and Steve Stoddart, we are now able to provide an on-line version which can be downloaded here. Over the next few weeks a paper copy of the 2014 Seamons Handbook containing contact details will be available for all members.

Do You Need Any Winter Kit ?
18 June 2014
I will be at the clubhouse this Friday 20th June with all stock items of club kit. Lots of short sleeved shirts, shorts and track mitts plus a few other items!

Now is the time to order your winter kit: bit tights, long sleeved jerseys, winter coats, rain coats, gilets etc. The next kit order will be sent on 14th July and should arrive early October. Come along on Friday and try for size if you want. It is hard to think about winter clothing in summer but if you don't get your order forms and deposits to me by 14th July, I cannot guarantee that I will have your size available in the stock that we hold. Order forms, details and photos of all available kit are on the website here. If you are not sure of your size, contact me. I do have some stock items for sale immediately (see the stock list) so contact me if you want to try for size or buy.

Car Assisted Ride
18 June 2014
This Sunday, 22nd June, I'm doing a car assisted ride starting at Clitheroe. The ride will go through the Trough of Bowland and climbs into Yorkshire with great views of Ingleborough and Pen Y ghent route here. Elaine's Tea Rooms at Feizor is good cafe, and so far the weather forecast is dry. Clitheroe is about 45 miles from Alty via the M60 / M66 so should take about an hour. I'm using the car Park on Edisford Road opposite the sports centre / swimming pool, unfortunately is about £3 for a full day. The post code for the car park is BB7 3LA if you are using your sat nav. Ready to ride at 10 am, let me know if you're coming.

Start List and Helpers Needed
Racers:
The start sheet and race programme for the Seamons Evening Road Race are available here: race programme, start sheet.
If you have entered the event and your name is shown on the start/reserve list and you want to withdraw, please let me know by 21st June and you can have a refund, after that date you are contributing to the prize list! I have mapped the course on ridewithgps which you can use to familiarise, however, it is essential that you listen to the pre-race briefing and check the notices displayed in the HQ in case any adjustments are necessary on the evening. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/5020176

Seamons Club Members:
We still need a few more volunteers to assisit with marshalling and signing on at the HQ, putting out/removing signage etc, this is essential to ensure the safe and smooth running of the event. Any assistance you can give will be greatly appreciated not only by your club mates but also those from the many other local clubs taking part in the racing.

Many thanks for supporting the event.

Seamons Social Group Rides: Can You Help?
28 May 2014
After several years of arranging for leaders and also covering the Social Group rides, I will need to take a step back for a few months due to health issues.

The current Social Group list has been extended to October, so all that is needed are volunteer leaders, preferably two, for those rides. It is better to have two leaders, but this is not essential as Dave Barker and John Menzies are usually available to cover the second leader role, by riding at the rear and warning the group if the pace gets too fast for anyone.

Please look at the updated Social Group Rides list in the "Documents" section here or on the Seamons Social Facebook page. Pick one or more to cover and email me at cdo@seamonscc.co.uk . You will be making a major conribution to the continuing sucess of our club and the enjoyment / safety of our newer members. In case I am unavailable at any time, please copy Nigel Harrop, chairman@seamonscc.co.uk and we will coordinate your offers, updating the Social Group Rides list with your name.

We have plenty of experienced members who are more than capable of taking a turn and don't forget, it's where we all first started.

If anyone fancies taking on the role of Rides Coordinator for the time being, your offer would be gratefully received!

Many Thanks, Darren Buckley, Club Development Officer.
Outstanding Criterium Success for Seamons CC

Jon is also a C5 para cyclist with Team GB.

Best wishes to Chris, Jon and all our other road race and time trial competitors for the rest of the season.

There is another order (with more short sleeved shirts and bib shorts due in approximately 4 weeks). I have also arranged for some gilets and long sleeved jerseys to be held in the UK, so if you want one of these let me know, pay a deposit, and it should arrive within a few days. Cheques (payable to Seamons CC) or cash for your balance.

If you can't get to the club night on Friday give me a call to arrange a mutually convenient time to call round and collect.

Volunteering to Assist at Club Events
9 May 2014
It feels like a long time since the Club AGM in November, but if you were present you will remember that the meeting unanimously approved the following addition to "The Seamons Way".

"Members are expected to volunteer their services to at least one event on the Club Calendar. We now have over 200 members and would like to emphasise that, given the relatively low cost of club membership when compared to other sporting organisations, and the time spent by many members on providing activities from which all benefit, then every member volunteering support for at least one club activity per year is a reasonable expectation."

So this is your chance to make a commitment to support one or more of the following activities. Make a note on your calendar and, when appropriate, letting the organiser know of your availability.
  • Weds 4th June 7:00 pm - Club 10 Mile TT Championship - JC/33 Kilton Course.
    ttsec@seamonscc.co.uk

  • Tues 17th June 7:00 pm - Club 25 Mile TT Championship - JC/24 Chelford Course, HQ Astra Zeneca Car Park (TBA). ttsec@seamonscc.co.uk

  • Tues 24th June 7:00 pm - Seamons Evening Road Race - Allostock Circuit - HQ Allostock Village Hall.
    rrsec@seamonscc.co.uk

  • Sat 2nd August 2:00 pm - Womens & Juniors National TT Championship - J2/9 Chelford Course, HQ Goostrey Village Hall. nat25@seamonscc.co.uk

  • Sat 20th September 10:00am - Seamons Open 25 Mile TT - J2/9 Chelford Course, HQ Goostrey Village Hall. ttsec@seamonscc.co.uk

  • Every Weds to mid August 7:30pm - Club 8.75 mile TTs - Kilton Course, HQ TBA, see this "News" section. clubtts@seamonscc.co.uk
These are just a few of the many events and activities organised annually by the Club but the public nature and safety requirements of the ones above means that your support will be gratefully received and really appreciated..

Seamons CC 8.75 mile Time Trials - Urgent News
3 May 2014
With effect from Wednesday 7th May the club is unable to use the car park at High Legh Village Hall. The Village Hall has accepted a commercial booking for the rest of the summer, so the car park is no longer available.

We have considered a number of alternatives, but the only viable option at the moment is to use the wide lane which is to the left, just after the entrance to High Legh Garden Centre on Halliwell's Brow. This is called Ditchfield Lane, but no name sign is visible.

Please park on the left side of the lane using the wide verge between the Garden Centre exit and the Garden Centre deliveries entrance. Please keep well away from any private houses or areas of mown verge.

Following some problems at last week's event, the entry system for the 8.75 mile TT has been revised as follows:
  • The event is limited to a maximum of 50 riders and 30 of those places are initialy reserved for Seamons CC members.
  • All potential entrants may Sign-on from 6:30pm in Ditchley Lane, but in order to secure a reserved place in the event, Seamons CC members must sign-on no later than 6:50pm.
  • If in the queue by 6:50pm Seamons members will be prioritised for a place.
  • From 6:50pm event places will be allocated on a "first come first served" basis to all potential entrants, up to the permitted maximum of 50 riders.
  • No one will be allowed to reserve places for friends, and the latest Signing-on time will be 7:10 pm or 20 minutes before the Start time, currently 7:30pm. After 7:10pm the organisers will have left for the Start.
  • Signing-on at the Start is not permitted.
The club is still persuing the use of the Car Wash / Post Office area opposite The Kiton, together with several other possibilities. So, please check back here regularly in case of any updates to the venue.

Marathon road closures - this afects you

The Greater Manchester Marathon will be taking place on Sunday 6th April and some of the roads around Altrincham are on the route. Road closures on the day mean that our club runs won't be able to start from Rackhams as normal.

Your route to the car park may be affected by the road closures so check and be prepared to go a different way if you're planning to meet up that Sunday.

***    8.15 pm Clubroom Friday 7th March    ***

Bring along cycling stuff you want to sell, swap or give away - come along if you want to pick up a bargain!. Cake provided.

If you're bringing stuff to sell - make sure it is labelled with name and asking price. There will be a table for selling items - so make sure you put the item on the "For Sale" table then haggle it out on the night.

If you're bringing stuff to give away for free - no need to label, just look out for the "Free" table - and stick it on there. There will be a donations box on the Free table - entirely voluntary; any funds raised will help to subsidise the evening's cakes and future social events. There will also be an opportunity to try and buy club kit at Jeanette's club kit stall!

Summer Kit Order - 2014
27 January 2014
Do you need to order any club kit ? The next order will be sent to our suppliers on Monday 17th February and should arrive in mid April in time for the summer season. So now is the time to order shorts, bib-shorts, bib-knickers, short sleeved tops etc.

You can order any item but please note that for most items there has to be a minimum of 10 ordered (women's items and skinsuits can be ordered in multiples of 5).

Do please take a look at the updated kit section on the Seamons website. You will find photographs of our kit, details of what is available, sizing guide and order forms here.

I know that I promised I would submit orders at the end of January, but I thought it was better to wait for the result of the ballot as I am sure many of you were holding back placing an order. The Kit WILL NOT BE CHANGING, so let me have your order forms and deposits ASAP.

Seamons CC Cycling Kit
17 January 2014
At its meeetings in December and January the Committee reviewed a proposal to ballot the membership on whether or not the club kit should be redesigned. Normally any alterations to the Club Constitution, or any other matter affecting the general policy of the club, must be sanctioned by a two thirds majority either at an AGM or, at an EGM requested by at least 20 members. However, in order to end the current uncertainty, and without creating a precedent for any future propositions, the Committee have decided to conduct an immediate ballot of all members. You are eligible to vote on this occasion if you have not yet rejoined for 2014, as your 2013 membership does not lapse until the end of February.

Please respond with a simple "Yes" or "No" to the following question:

"Do you want the design of the Seamons CC kit to be changed at this time?"

Please e-mail your response to the Membership Secretary:   Mike Brooks info@seamonscc.co.uk
or reply by post to Mike at:   22 Claremont Avenue, Timperley, WA14 5NF

The deadline for voting is 6pm on Sunday 26th January 2014

Don't forget to include your name! One member, one vote!

A two thirds majority of those voting is required for the proposal to re-design the club kit to be implemented.

Paper Ballot Slips will also be available at the Friday night club meetings on January 17th / 24th and on Sunday morning at Rackhams on January 19th / 26th.

Thanks once again for your support.

Seamons CC Membership 2014 & A Happy New Year
31 December 2013
Happy New Year everyone. It's been a great season for the Seamons, great events, excellent promotions, more members then ever and lots of new records. Lets make 2014 every bit as rewarding and, if at all possible, even better!

With the New Year and new season in mind, the application form for joining the club and for renewing membership has been revised and is available below and through the membership or documents section on the website. Would everyone please complete a form in full, even when renewing, as this will enable the club to hold an accurate record of your contact details and even more importantly, who to contact in an emergency.

The form also enables you to opt in to reading the Squirrel on-line or as a download, but only if you wish to do so. If you do it will help reduce printing and postage costs, as well as time taken to distribute the magazine. When available, you will also have the option of receiving the 2014 Club Handbook the same way. This 2014 Handbook will not contain names and contact details of members, so will be web friendly! However we do intend to distribute paper copies of contact details to Seamons members around March/April.

Thanks for all your support for the Club during 2013.

Best wishes for a great 2014 and for a truly enjoyable cycling season with Seamons CC.

Nigel Harrop - Chairman, Seamons CC

Trophies
23 December 2013
Christmas isn't just a time for receiving, it's also a time for giving. I'm talking to all you 2012 season trophy winners. Please start to think about giving back your trophies. While you're polishing those new wheels, how about polishing those old trophies too. Please polish them, box or bag them , and bring them to the club. You can contact me at ttsec@seamonscc.co.uk or 07594 806403 to make alternative arrangements.

A seperate matter: here's a final reminder for those who want to make a claim for club standards. Please see the message below from 15th November

Time Trial Secretary
Club Standards
15 November 2013
It's time again to remind everyone that within the club there are bronze, silver and gold standards for time trialling. The times are laid out in the club handbook. If you have reached one of those standards this year for the first time, please let the TT Secretary know and you'll get a certificate in recognition. You'll have to get the claim in before the end of the year though. E-mail ttsec@seamonscc.co.uk or contact John Barry or Charles Carraz.

Why not make it a target for 2014. It's only your personal time that counts - you don't have to win any race to achieve it.
Skin Suits
3 January 2014
A few people were unsure what size of skinsuit to order so I have arranged for Giordana to send me samples which wil arrive early next week. If you want to try for size I will bring them to club night on Friday 10th January or you can arrange to call round to try (if you have already given me your order form and deposit, you may wish to confirm that you have ordered the correct size).

I will now sumit the order on Monday 13th January - they should still arrive in time for the start of the TT season. NB. I MUST HAVE your order form and deposit by next Saturday 11th January.

As you are probably aware, in mid January the Club Committee will discuss a request to consider a redesign of our current kit. Please be assured that there will be no change to our kit design in 2014, so please don't be put off ordering for the coming season. The outcome of the Committee's discussion wil appear in the "News" section of the Club Website asap after the meeting.

Jeanette Barber kit_orders@seamonscc.co.uk
Skin Suits
19 November 2013
I will be placing an order for skin suits at the end of December, so they arrive in time for the 2014 time trialling season. If you want one please ensure that you send me a completed order form and deposit by the end of the year. You can now choose between four different types of chamois pads (see order form).

FYI, the next full club kit order will be submitted at the end of January, due to arrive early April, in time for the start of the warmer weather.

NB: I do have a large quantity of stock items, ready to buy now ( Ideal Christmas presents ? ) Contact me if you want to buy anything.

Chairman's 100 Charity Ride - Sunday 29th September 2013
13 September 2013
Members are being asked to saddle up for a new annual club event - The Chairman's 100.

After the success of last year's well supported Chairman's 100, which raised more than £1,000 for the North West Air Ambulance, the event will be held again this year, on September 29th, leaving Rackhams at 9.00 am.

Members are invited to ride either the 100 miles in 8 hours course or a 100 km (62 miles) course.

The rides will be the official club runs for all groups on that day with everyone being asked to donate £10 or more to the charity.

Interim Chairman Nigel Harrop has supported the nomination of the North West Ambulance as his charity for the ride. Donations will be collected on the day and there's an opportunity to increase your donation by using Gift Aid (details available on the day).

It's a day to wear your club jersey with pride and support a charity whose services none of us hope we'll ever need, but one which we know we're already indebted to.

If you can't make this year's event, you can plan ahead for 2014 as the annual date for the Chairman's 100 Charity Rides will always be the last Sunday in September.

100 mile route is here: 100 in 8

100 km route is here: 100k in 8

Help required for Club's open "25"
23 August 2013
Our Open 25 is in the morning of 21st September so I am looking for as much help as possible on the day.  We will need people for catering, giving out numbers, marshalling, putting out signs, assisting timekeepers and updating the results board.  This is the only open TT event that we run in the year and is our opportunity to repay all the other clubs that organise similar events for the benefit of our riders.  There is a lot to do and I would appreciate as much help as possible.  Please let me know if you can make yourself available –

Transpennine Trail Resurfacing
10 November 2008
Message from Dave Barker.... If you fancy an alternative to the Ashley route out of Altrincham, there is now another option. At long last the Transpennine Trail has been resurfaced from Broadheath/Sinderland to link with the very rideable Warrington section. So you can now join it or leave it at Sinderland (the old level crossing at the end of Atlantic Street and Dairyhouse Lane), Dunham (Rope and Anchor) and Heatley (the Railway) as well as the Warrington junctions (Oughtrington etc). Unfortunately for the Touring Section both the Rope and Anchor and the Railway are currently closed down!

Arthur Thorlby legacy
As some of you may know the Club was left a legacy of £500 by a former member, Arthur Thorlby. It was decided, as Arthur was a great tourist and former leader of the Touring Section, to use the money to purchase some Ordanace Survey Landranger maps for use by club members.

We have now got 47 laminated maps numbers 89 to 130 inclusive and 135, 136, 137, 138, 147 and 148. They are housed at the Club room.

If you wish to borrow a map please let Keith Wilkinson know or look out at the Clubroom.

AND a note from Andy Burns:

We also have two mountain bike books containing routes covering NE & NW Wales. Routes range in length & difficulty from a leisurely couple of hours through to lung bustin' epics. They are housed at the Club room.

If you wish to borrow a book please let Andy know or look out at the Clubroom.
